Sonics' Lewis Cleared To Start Shooting Again

Jan 27, 2007 12:33 AM

Rashard Lewis doesn't have to play one-handed pickup games anymore.

The Seattle forward has been given doctors clearance to start shooting again with his injured right hand that has sidelined the former All-Star since late December.

Lewis can't participate in contract drills yet, but was out shooting for an extended period before the SuperSonics' game Friday night against Minnesota. Although he was just given the OK to start shooting this week, Lewis hopes to return either right before or right after the All-Star break.

Lewis Still Nursing Hand

Jan 17, 2007 7:08 AM

Sonics forward Rashard Lewis will meet with a hand specialist on Jan. 24 to determine a rehabilitation schedule, and he hopes to return near the All-Star break. For now, Lewis is taking jumpers with his left hand and trying to stay in shape until he can begin using his hand.

"I'm not able to do anything with my right hand," he said. "I guess they want me to stay off of it until I can begin a rehab. So as of now, I have no idea when I am coming back."

Allen Drops Career-High 54

Jan 13, 2007 3:54 AM

Ray Allen scored a career-high 54 points to lead Seattle to a 122-114 overtime win over the Utah Jazz on Friday night, snapping the SuperSonics' six-game losing streak.

Allen's performance was second-best in franchise history to Fred Brown's 58-point outburst against Golden State on March 23, 1974, and easily surpassed Allen's previous career-high of 47 versus Charlotte in 2002 while Allen was with Milwaukee.

And Seattle needed every point on this night.

"The circumstances -- us needing a win, going into overtime like we did, being down in the fourth quarter -- it looked like we were heading in that direction where we've been headed in many games up to this point," Allen said.

Allen was 17-for-32 from the field, 12-for-12 at the line and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Sene Assigned To D-League

Jan 10, 2007 11:06 PM

Sonics General Manager Rick Sund announced today that the team has assigned center Mouhamed Sene to the Idaho Stampede of the NBA Development League. Sene, the 10th overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft, has appeared in 16 games for the Sonics this season, averaging 0.9 points and 1.1 rebounds in 4.9 minutes per game.

Sene is the first Sonics player to be assigned to the D-League since the current affiliation system began during the 2005-06 season.  Under the system, NBA teams can assign up to two players who are rookies or in their second season to their D-League affiliate. Players can stay with the D-League team for as long as the team wishes, and be recalled back to the NBA at any time. However, a player can only be sent to the D-League a maximum of three times during the season.

Ridnour Demoted In Sonics' Overhaul Of Lineup

Jan 7, 2007 3:49 AM

Seattle's 10-game road losing streak going into the game didn't prompt coach Bob Hill to blow up the starting lineup as much as the team's performance in the first quarter of the previous three games.

"When you lose [10] in a row, you've got to do something," he said. "But honestly, we've gotten off to slow starts. That's it."

Because of the slow starts, Hill inserted three new starters and demoted point guard Luke Ridnour, who lost his job to Earl Watson. Nick Collison and rookie Mickael Gelabale, a first-time starter, joined Ray Allen and Chris Wilcox in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against Golden State at Oracle Arena.

Warriors Stay Hot At Home

Jan 7, 2007 2:53 AM

Don Nelson tried almost every trick he had to slow down Ray Allen.

Big man, little man. Single coverage, double team. No matter what combination the Warriors tried, Allen had an answer. Until the final seconds.

Matt Barnes made a tiebreaking layup with 1:05 to go, extended the lead on a goaltending call and distracted Allen enough on a potential game-tying 3-pointer to preserve the Warriors' 108-104 victory over the SuperSonics on Saturday night.
