Mavericks 'Agitated' By Fisher Signing With Thunder

Feb 26, 2013 5:55 PM

Derek Fisher signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder this week a few months after leaving the Dallas Mavericks citing an injured knee and desire to be with his family in California.

“He and Mark (Cuban) had an agreement when he came here that he would come and if things got to where he needed to leave for family reasons, he would do that,” Rick Carlisle said. “That’s what he said was the situation. I’m going to take him at his word.

“Look, he’s one of those guys who have been around this league for a long time. He’s won a lot of rings. My opinion is he’s earned the right to do what’s best for him.

“If Oklahoma City’s a good situation for him, then that’s what he should do. We’ve got to carry on. We can’t be concerned about things like that.”

A league source told Jeff Caplan of NBA.com that the Mavericks' front office was "agitated" by Fisher's decision.

Martin, Collison Developing Chemistry On Thunder Second Unit

Feb 23, 2013 8:18 PM

Kevin Martin has played well with the Oklahoma City Thunder’s second unit, and already has developed chemistry with Nick Collison.

Collison has registered 78 assists this season, 42 of which have gone to Martin.

“Him and (James) Harden had a great two-man game, and me and Brad Miller, we had a great two-man game,” Martin explained. “So it's kind of like me and Brad divorced, him and Harden divorced and me and Nick got together — in a basketball way.”

Collison and Martin have been so effective working the two-man game that Collison leads the Thunder with a 7.9 assist-to-turnover ratio, according to 82games.com.

“His basketball IQ is very high, so he knows when to do something and when not to do something,” Martin said. “He doesn't force anything. He's just a high IQ basketball player.”
