Reggie Jackson Determined To Find Starting Job In Restricted Free Agency

Oct 31, 2014 11:06 PM

Reggie Jackson is determined to pursue restricted free agency in search of a starting job next offseason.

Jackson and the Oklahoma City Thunder were unable to agree upon a contract extension.

Jackson is eager to prove his value out of the shadow of Russell Westbrook.

Jackson could be a target in restricted free agency that rival teams can pry from the Thunder.

“Bottom line,” one NBA general manager told Yahoo Sports, “how much are they willing to pay for Westbrook’s backup?”

Some teams believe Jackson could command a deal in the $13 million-$14 million-plus annual range.

Kevin Durant, Serge Ibaka and Russell Westbrook are on the books to make nearly $50 million next season.

Gasol: Picking Bulls Over Spurs, Thunder Was Most Difficult Decision Of My Life

Oct 30, 2014 11:14 AM

The New York Knicks pursued Pau Gasol in the offseason, but they didn't have the cap space or title contender status that he was looking for.

Choosing between the Chicago Bulls, San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder was "probably the most difficult decision that I made in my career and in my life," Gasol said.

"I considered it," Gasol said of the Knicks. "But I thought the team was not at the level of others, other contenders and options that I had. I'm coming down to my last few years of my career, and I want to maximize them. And it was difficult to leave L.A. in the first place. But now I feel like I'm in a great position, and we have a great opportunity, and now let's see if we're lucky and we deserve to do something special."

Gasol had 21 points and 11 rebounds in the Bulls' opener against the Knicks.

"Plays where you need a great shot and you know that anything isn't rolling for you, you can easily dump it down and space out," Rose said. "If you double-team, it's going to be a wide-open shot, a wide-open three. … It makes the game easy for everyone."

Thunder Unlikely To Sign Reggie Jackson To Extension

Oct 30, 2014 1:16 AM

The Oklahoma City Thunder are unlikely to agree upon an extension with Reggie Jackson, which will allow him to become a restricted free agent in 2015.

The Thunder will have the right to match any offer Jackson receives from another club.

Oklahoma City agreed upon extensions with Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, Serge Ibaka and Thabo Sefolosha, but were unable to with Jeff Green and James Harden. Green was traded at that season's deadline, while Harden was dealt before the extension deadline.

Lance Thomas Makes Thunder's Season Roster As Jenkins, Zanna, Solomon Waived

Oct 24, 2014 5:51 PM

After entering Oklahoma City training camp on a non-guaranteed contract, Lance Thomas has been informed he will make the Thunder’s regular season, 15-man roster, league sources told RealGM on Friday.

To finalize the roster into the regular season, the Thunder waived training camp invites Michael Jenkins, Talib Zanna and Richard Solomon.

Thomas, an active 6-foot-8 forward, averaged 4.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 21.7 minutes in six preseason games for the Thunder. The 26-year-old has played parts of the last three seasons with New Orleans, creating a rebounding and defensive niche.

Thomas went undrafted out of Duke University in 2010.

Thunder, Bucks Join 76ers In Opposing Lottery Reform

Oct 21, 2014 5:37 PM

The Oklahoma City Thunder have joined the Philadelphia 76ers in opposing the NBA's proposed changes to the draft lottery system, according to a report from Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated reports that the Milwaukee Bucks will also oppose the proposal.

Sam Presti has attempted to warn other small-market executives that changing the system is a risky proposition for their franchises.

Uner the proposed new system, the worst four teams have a 12 percent chance at the first pick, No. 5 has an 11.5 percent chance, No. 6, 10 percent, and on down.

The changes have been triggered by a response to the 76ers' pursuit of high draft picks in successive seasons.

Presti's belief is that the changes would give big market teams another advantage.

"Everyone is too focused on Philly, on one team in one situation," said one sympathetic GM. "The only chance for a lot of teams to ever get a transformational player is through the draft, and eventually we are all going to be in the lottery, in that spot. The teams that'll drop from two to eight, or three to nine – that's just going to take the air out of those fan bases and franchises. They'll get little, if any chance, to improve.

"We are going to see more big-market teams who just missed the playoffs jump up and get a great young player at the top of the draft. And people are going to go "What the [expletive] just happened?"

The 76ers and Thunder need six more teams to join them in opposing the rule change before Wednesday's vote.

As one Western Conference GM said, "Then there will be no going back. I hope we know what we're doing with this one."

Kevin Durant Hopes For December Return, Won't Rush Recovery

Oct 21, 2014 1:37 PM

Kevin Durant discussed the Jones fracture in his left foot, which required surgery, for the first time Tuesday.

Durant is expected to miss up to eight weeks and said he will not speed up his recovery timetable.

"Nah, I’m not going to rush it at all," Durant said. "That’s one thing I’m not going to do. I’m sure I’ll feeI better in two or three weeks, but I definitely don’t want to rush it. So I’m taking my time with it. Blessed that it happened early in the season so I can get passed it and hopefully by December I’ll be ready to play."

Durant added his body has normally bounced back quickly from previous injuries.

"Pretty quick. I’ve never had surgery before, first thing. I don’t really know what to expect, but I know I’ll make a full recovery."

Thunder Seeing Improved Offense In Steven Adams

Oct 19, 2014 10:23 PM

Steven Adams returned to the Oklahoma City Thunder this season as a much improved offensive player.

Adams' production on offense was inconsistent and limited last season.

“I think he’s just settling down,” Kevin Durant said. “Getting more comfortable.”

“I thought he made a leap last year in the playoffs,” Russell Westbrook said. “I think that’s when the leap started. If you kind of watch the games and see the different things he was doing in the playoffs, you could tell it was going to lead into the summertime and now into the preseason and now to the regular season.”
