Thunder Stagger Minutes Of Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook For Entire Game

Feb 25, 2016 10:57 AM

Basketball analysts have long criticized the Oklahoma City Thunder for not staggering the minutes of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook across the tenures of both Scott Brooks and Billy Donovan.

For the first time in an entire game, Donovan made sure either Durant or Westbrook were on the floor for every second of their 116-103 win over the Dallas Mavericks.

Durant subbed out just six minutes into the game and then returned three minutes later for Westbrook. Durant finished the first quarter and then started the second when the Thunder typically have an all-bench unit.

Durant came out at the 9:27 mark of the second quarter for Westbrook to return and then came back in at the 5:09 mark.

Durant and Westbrook played approximately 12 minutes together and 12 minutes apart in each half.

Donovan also put out a previously unused small lineup of Westbrook-Randy Foye-Andre Roberson-Durant-Serge Ibaka.

Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook 'Get Along Great'

Feb 23, 2016 11:06 AM

Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook "get along great" according to sources.

There has been some minor tension, however, as Westbrook has taken on a bigger role in the Oklahoma City Thunder offense.

Durant will be a free agent in 2016 and Westbrook becomes eligible in 2017.

Woj: Lakers Not 'Real Significant Factor' For Kevin Durant

Feb 21, 2016 11:37 AM

Adrian Wojnarowski doesn't believe the Los Angeles Lakers are a legitimate potential free agent destination for Kevin Durant.

Wojnarowski's reporting has indicated the Golden State Warriors are the favorites for Durant should he decide to leave the Oklahoma City Thunder. Stephen A. Smith has reported about the possibility of the Lakers being in play for Durant.

"The Lakers are not front-runners for Kevin Durant, he wants to win a championship," said Wojnarowski. "If he leaves Oklahoma, he may end up staying there and I've written that. Golden State is a team that is worrisome for Oklahoma City -- that's a team that has Kevin Durant's attention. Kevin Durant wants to win a championship right away and either he wants to do that in Oklahoma City with the group they have or he's going to go somewhere where he can win a title right away.

"Kevin Durant doesn't care if they have the first pick, the second pick, third pick; no free agent cares. No free agent of his stature cares what draft pick a team has because that guy is not going to help them win championships in the next two or three years. And if Kevin Durant leaves Oklahoma, he wants to be ready to win a championship right away. He's at a point in his career where he cant wait two or three years and hope that it happens. I think part of his criteria, sources tell me, will be, 'Is that team good enough to beat Golden State with me on it? Or is it Golden State? Or can I stay in Oklahoma and continue to be able to do that and compete for a championship?

"Listen, I just don't think that the Lakers are a real significant factor for Kevin Durant."

Durant, Westbrook Not Clamoring For Thunder To Make Deadline Deal

Feb 17, 2016 9:12 PM

Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook were asked about the roster of the Oklahoma City Thunder ahead of the trade deadline.

"That's out of my control," said Durant. "I trust Sam 100 percent. Whatever he does I know it's for the betterment of the organization and the team. So whatever he chooses to do I'm happy with it and I'm going to support it. I'm not one of those guys that needs so much or wants to know every single move. It's part of the game and I've got to roll with the punches and whatever happens, happens and I've got to be a good leader no matter what."

Westbrook suggested he'd like the Thunder to maintain the status quo.

"I've been confident since the season started that we have what it takes to win a championship," said Westbrook. "I like our team and I like where we are."

Kevin Durant: I Want To Finish This Thing Out With The Thunder

Feb 12, 2016 8:25 PM

The Oklahoma City Thunder have held no internal discussions nor have they explored trading Kevin Durant ahead of the deadline.

Durant will be a free agent this offseason.

Durant was asked if he ever gave thought to the possibility of the Thunder trading him away.

“I really don’t know. I doubt it, but we’ll see. I guess now that you said something, I might not be able to sleep the next few days,” said Durant.

“I never thought about that at all,” Durant said with a laugh. “I don’t know, man. I don’t want to be moved. I want to finish this thing out with my team. I think we got a really good thing going right now, so I haven’t really thought about it.

“We never talk about that stuff, me, [general manager] Sam Presti, our assistant GM [Troy Weaver]. It’s always about how I can be better for my teammates and with my leadership skills.”

The Golden State Warriors, Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers are expected to pursue Durant.

Durant has seemingly warmed to the idea of being pursued.

“I will tell you one thing, it’s great to feel wanted,” Durant said. “… I’ve heard so many rumors or whatever. It’s good for people to say this team wants me or that team wants me. That’s what you want as a player is for everybody to respect you and really admire how you play basketball.

“But at the same time, man, my focus has just being the best player I can be for my teammates. I got a lot of responsibility as the big brother and leader of our team. That takes a lot of focus anyway. It’s tough.”

Kevin Durant Wasn't Familiar With One-Plus-One Contract Possibility

Feb 12, 2016 12:45 PM

Kevin Durant was asked if he's considered the possibility of signing a one-plus-one contract this offseason with the Oklahoma City Thunder, which would allow him to become a free agent again in 2017. Durant could then decide his future alongside Russell Westbrook, who will be a free agent in 2017. Durant would also be positioned to receive a super max contract in 2017.

"Actually that's probably one of the first times I've heard that one," said Durant. "But, no, I haven't really thought about it, man. I'm just, with [coming back from] injury and just getting back to playing again, I haven't thought about contracts or free agency or none of that stuff at all. ... I really haven't thought about that one. I guess I have to."

If Durant were to leave the Thunder, the Golden State Warriors have emerged as the most likely destination.
