Dooling Looking At Joining Magic Or Heat

Jun 29, 2010 8:06 PM

Waived by the Nets this week, Keyon Dooling is looking at signing with either the Magic or Heat.

Dooling played for Stan Van Gundy in Miami during the 2004-05 season. And he played for Van Gundy in Orlando during the 2007-08 season.

"I think there's a very realistic chance I could be back again with one of the Florida teams,'' Dooling told FanHouse by phone Tuesday. "Stan (Van Gundy) taught me more about basketball than anyone else in my career. It would be a smooth and easy transition to go back and play for him (in Orlando) again.''

Barnes Hopes To Stay With Magic, Says Lakers Have Interest

Jun 29, 2010 7:55 AM

Matt Barnes will be a free agent for the second consecutive summer, but that doesn't mean he'll necessarily leave the Magic.

He has said his first preference would be to re-sign with Orlando, but he has options should that not happen.

"I'm out in L.A. and I've heard that the Lakers are definitely interested. But who knows?" Barnes told the Orlando Sentinel.

"I've heard a lot of rumors about a lot of things."

Before he signed with the Magic last summer, Barnes said the Lakers, Mavericks and Spurs were interested in his services.

He added that he'd be willing to come off the bench if the Magic swing a major move to improve their title chances.

"If we get one of those free agents, I'd have no problem going to the bench," Barnes said. "Everyone wants to be a starter, sure, but the goal is to win a championship."

Orlando Denies Deng, Paul Trade Rumors

Jun 26, 2010 11:17 AM

Otis Smith doesn't necessarily expect a blockbuster deal to happen this summer.

"I really do like our team, and I think our team has a chance to win," Smith said. "I don't think we need to revamp the system because it's broken because it's not broken. We got beat by a pretty hard team in Boston and we didn't play particularly well."

Smith shot down reports that the Magic had discussed a possible deal with the Chicago Bulls that would have sent small forward Luol Deng to Orlando for backup center Marcin Gortat and small forward Mickael Pietrus.

"I have had no conversations with the Bulls at any point in time during this draft," Smith said. "Actually, they're probably one of three teams I did not talk to during the draft process."

Smith also denied having talks with the Hornets in regards to Chris Paul.

Magic Hope To Retain Redick, Barnes

Jun 12, 2010 10:04 AM

Magic general manager Otis Smith said on Friday that the team will do their best to retain guard J.J. Redick and forward Matt Barnes.

Barnes has said that he'll opt out of his contract and Redick will be a restricted free agent.

Smith told the Orlando Sentinel that he will gauge the value of players based on the entire season, not simply the playoffs.

"I use the entire season, not just one thing or another," Smith said. "So I think the moves that I made are fine. I don?t think the moves I made had anything to do with anything. We didn't have as successful a postseason as you would have liked. We get better, come back."
