Van Gundy Always Liked Dwight Personally

Aug 26, 2013 1:48 PM

Dwight Howard and Stan Van Gundy had a relationship that was contentious at times during their final season together with the Orlando Magic.

But Howard and Van Gundy have remained in touch over the past year.

"I don't think there was ever a point where I didn't like Dwight personally. I like him. I've had a lot of laughs with him. He's a good guy. We had some things that we disagreed on. We had some things we disagreed strongly on and some times where we pissed each other off. And those were well-documented. But it doesn't negate all of the good things he did and the good times that were there in the five years we were together. So for me it's not a hard thing to overlook."

Rockets, Magic Agreed Upon Tentative Trade For Dwight Howard In March Of 2012

Aug 14, 2013 9:02 PM

The Houston Rockets and Orlando Magic had tentatively agreed upon a trade involving Dwight Howard in March of 2012.

The Magic were prepared to trade Howard if he did not opt-in for the 12-13 NBA season.

The Brooklyn Nets were also attempting to trade for Howard, but couldn't come up with a package that the Magic liked as much as Houston's. At that point, Howard strongly preferred a trade to the Nets.

If the Rockets had traded for Howard, they more than likely would have been unable to subsequently trade for James Harden.

Ultimately Howard was traded by the Magic to the Los Angeles Lakers last August.

Harrington On Magic: 'Winning Wasn't On They Agenda'

Aug 13, 2013 10:45 PM

Al Harrington played just 10 games for the Orlando Magic last season and believes the team did not prioritize winning.

“For me, last year was just a nightmare, from start to finish,” Harrington said. “The Orlando thing with, I think they brought me there never expecting me to play, but then I got healthy and it was kind of a surprise for them. It was tough, but I understood that was the business and they had to do it for whatever there reasons was.

"Winning wasn’t on they agenda and that wasn’t nothing I wanted to be a part of at my age.”

The Magic decided to waive Harrington after being unable to trade him or reach a buyout agreement, and now the veteran forward is close to a one-year deal with the Washington Wizards.

Magic Seek Single Affiliate D-League Franchise

Aug 3, 2013 8:52 PM

The Orlando Magic are seeking a one-to-one affiliation with a D-League franchise that is based in Florida.

The Magic would like the agreement to be a hybrid where the team operates and pays for the basketball operations and a separate ownership group runs the rest of the franchise.

However, there isn't currently a D-League team in Florida.

The D-League is discussing expanding its number of teams.

“It will be carefully managed and hopefully an intelligent expansion process,” D-League president Dan Reed told the Orlando Sentinel. “The long-run goal is 30 teams, where every NBA team has its own NBA D-League team. I can’t tell you exactly when that will happen, but I think we’ll get closer to that in the near future.”
