Kwame Models Career After Players With Longevity

Nov 29, 2012 11:21 AM

Kwame Brown has given the Philadelphia 76ers solid production at center this season.

Brown signed in the offseason on a one-year, $3 million deal with a player option at the same price for 13-14.

“A couple years ago, I modeled myself after guys with longevity,” Brown said. “That’s what I wanted to do. To be in this business, you’ve got to know your role and know what you want to do — forget what pick or meeting expectations. You’ve just got to go out and do your job.”

“We didn’t sign him because he was the first pick in the draft,” Doug Collins said. “We think he’s a tremendous low-post defender. We need him and Lavoy (Allen). That’s the only size we have.”

Holiday Hopes To Receive All-Star Consideration

Nov 26, 2012 10:46 AM

Jrue Holiday scored a career-high 33 points to go with 13 assists in the Philadelphia 76ers' 104-101 win over the Suns on Sunday.

Holiday is averaging 18.6 points and 9.2 assists per game this season, which are the type of numbers that will make him an All-Star candidate.

“Man, I hope (I deserve serious consideration),” Holiday said. “I don’t really look at the statistics of me and the other guards. I really just try to go out there and play.”

Bynum Could Be Out Until March With Rest, One Year With Surgery

Nov 21, 2012 12:13 PM

Andrew Bynum's agent continues to keep the specifics of his client's knee issue a secret.

All of the publicly available information on Bynum suggests a probable diagnosis of osteochondral lesions says one of the nation's top orthopedic surgeons, a condition that may keep Bynum out for the season.

The condition could heal on its own within four to six months, but that would keep Bynum out until March or April.

The surgeon said that surgery could keep him from playing for up to a year.

Bynum should know whether he needs surgery by December.

The surgeon spoke on condition of anonymity because Bynum is not his patient.

Bynum Admits New Injury Occurred During Bowling

Nov 18, 2012 11:22 PM

Andrew Bynum admitted on Sunday that he may have sustained a left knee injury while bowling.

“It’s the same exact injury, mirror images of the knee; I think it happened bowling, to be honest,” Bynum said.

Bynum contends that he did not suffer any trauma to the knee.

“I didn’t twist it, didn’t fall – nothing,” Bynum said.  “It’s weird because I was doing low-impact training and squatting and then I go out and hurt myself like this. It’s very frustrating."

Bynum Sustained Additional Injury Bowling

Nov 18, 2012 2:22 AM

Andrew Bynum suffered an unspecified injury this month while bowling, according to multiple sources.

"I had a little bit of a setback, and we're just working through some issues with the right knee," Bynum said on Friday. "I kind of have a mirror thing going on with my left knee. I don't know what's going on, but the doctors are saying pretty much that it's a weakened cartilage state."

Bowling is not an activity prohibited by standard NBA player contracts.

Bynum's debut with the Philadelphia 76ers has already been postponed multiple times.

Bynum Has 'Setback' In Recovery From Knee Injury

Nov 16, 2012 8:33 PM

Andrew suffered a "setback" in his recovery from a right knee injury and now has swelling and a bone bruise on both knees.

“I'm doing alright, I had a little bit of a setback just working through some issues with the right knee, kind of mirroring my left knee,” Bynum said. “I don't know what's going on. The doctors are saying to wait, I guess because of the cartilage. They're not giving me anything real definite. I just have to wait for the cartilage to get stronger. It's in both knees. Same spot, both knees.

“We were just doing routine things and it started swelling up. It wasn't any blunt force injury.”

Bynum noticed a couple days ago that there was increased swelling in both knees.

“This is a weird issue,” Bynum said. “I've never had any cartilage issues. I had the meniscus thing, but that doesn't hurt, that's fine. We don't know what's going on. I don't know. It's just frustrating. This is an issue that's just going to take time to resolve. There's no procedures or anything that can be done.”

76ers Target Dec. 10 For Bynum To Begin Basketball Activity

Nov 12, 2012 11:16 AM

If the current prognosis on Andrew Bynum remains unchanged, he would be cleared to resume normal basketball activity by approximately December 10.

The Philadelphia 76ers estimate that Bynum will need an additional 1-4 weeks thereafter for conditioning, training and practice before being able to resume game play with significant minutes.

"We know that Sixers fans are eager to see Andrew Bynum play and shine in a 76ers uniform," said Tony DiLeo. "We also know that no one is more eager to see Andrew play for the Sixers than Andrew himself. He fully realizes the key contribution he can make to the team. Hopefully, that day is coming soon."

Collins Not Expecting Bynum's Return To Become 'Cure' For 76ers

Nov 7, 2012 11:33 AM

The Philadelphia 76ers have lost by 16 and 22 points to the Knicks on back-to-back days.

Doug Collins ran a 90 minute practice on Tuesday before the team flew to New Orleans.

The 76ers worked on increasing player and ball movement in the halfcourt offense.

“No, we don’t expect Andrew Bynum to come back and everything is cured,” Collins said. “We have a lot of stuff we have to do. What we have to do right now is to build trust in each other and the only way to do that is by playing when it counts. Exhibition doesn’t build trust.”

The 76ers are also incorporating nine new players on the roster.

Bynum Improving, But Situation Remains Unchanged

Nov 6, 2012 9:37 AM

Philadelphia 76ers' general manager Tony DiLeo said Monday that there’s nothing to report with Andrew Bynum, who is still out with a knee bone bruise.

Bynum has begun low-impact conditioning, but won’t start any basketball-related activities until he’s pain-free.

“He’s improving, but it’s still the same situation,” DiLeo said.

Bynum still has no timetable to return, according to DiLeo.
