76ers Unsure If Joel Embiid Will Play At All This Season

Aug 27, 2014 1:10 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers are unsure if Joel Embiid will play in any games this season.

Embiid underwent surgery on his foot in June and the original prognosis was that he would be out 4-6 months.

"I don't know at this point. Right now, he's in Philly and visiting with a variety of our medical professionals and going through tests," said Sam Hinkie.

"He'll get a good baseline and then we'll put together a rehab plan. He's still in a boot. He was shooting threes on one leg in our gym [Monday]. I don't know how it will play out. We'll take an approach without knowing where the finish line is. We want to know how we can be sure to put him in a position to have a long NBA career. However long [rehab] takes will be however long it takes. In my experience with this injury, a very reasonable approach that our medical professionals take is to put these hurdles in place for them to rise above and then measure the symptoms and then let's see what happens in the days after. Is there tightness or soreness or swelling? Does the MRI or X-ray show something different? When we set that road map, no one knows [how long it will take]."

Hinkie: Acquiring 1st Round Pick Was Key To Trade For 76ers

Aug 27, 2014 2:28 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers acquired a first round pick along with Luc Mbah a Moute and Alexey Shved in exchange for Thaddeus Young.

The 76ers will likely receive the pick, which originates from the Miami Heat, in 2015.

"There were several components [that were enticing] and one is the first-round pick held by Miami," Hinkie said in a conference call yesterday. "That's important. You don't see a lot of first-round picks changing hands these days. The players will be helpful, too. Luc Richard Mbah a Moute had a fantastic career at UCLA. Early in his NBA career, he was an everyday lockdown defender. He's a versatile guy who could guard multiple positions.

"Alexey Shved, been around for 2 years and played at a high level in big games, a guy that we had paid attention to for many years before he joined Minnesota. He can both handle the ball and play off the ball."

Mbah a Moute is also expected to help as a mentor to Joel Embiid.

"Luc's relationship with Joel can only help," said Hinkie. "We're definitely in the mode of player development and Joel's a big part of that."

Cavaliers Acquire Kevin Love, Send Andrew Wiggins, Anthony Bennett To Timberwolves In Three-Team Deal

Aug 24, 2014 12:45 PM

The Cleveland Cavaliers have acquired forward Kevin Love in a three-team trade that sends guard Andrew Wiggins and forward Anthony Bennett to the Minnesota Timberwolves and Miami's protected 2015 first round pick to the Philadelphia 76ers.

As part of the three-team trade, Minnesota will also acquire forward Thaddeus Young from the 76ers, while Philadelphia receives forward Luc Mbah a Moute and guard Alexey Shved from the Timberwolves.

“Kevin joining the Cavaliers represents a very special and unique opportunity for our team. At only 25, Kevin has already firmly established himself as one the NBA’s elite players and his talent, versatility and fit are major parts of our team’s vision for success," David Griffin said in a statement. “We want to also wish Andrew Wiggins and Anthony Bennett the best as they will continue the start of their careers in Minnesota. Wolves To Acquire Young From 76ers For Mbah a Moute, Shved, Miami's 1st Rounder

Aug 22, 2014 12:27 AM

The Minnesota Timberwolves will trade Luc Mbah a Moute, Alexey Shved and the first round pick in 2015 belonging to the Miami Heat to the Philadelphia 76ers for Thaddeus Young.

Mbah a Moute's value to the 76ers, at least in part, comes from his close relationship with Joel Embiid.

There had been speculation that Anthony Bennett would be traded to the 76ers, but he will stay with the Wolves following his trade from the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Wolves have reportedly been interested in flipping Bennett for Thaddeus Young from the 76ers.

Anthony Bennett Focused On Basketball, Not Eventual Destination

Aug 19, 2014 11:18 AM

Anthony Bennett is expected to be traded by the Cleveland Cavaliers, but his destination is not yet certain.

The Cavaliers will acquire Kevin Love from the Minnesota Timberwolves, but there have been reports Bennett would be sent to the Philadelphia 76ers in the deal.

“I’m just a young man just ready to work,” Bennett said on Monday.

“Wherever I end up, doesn’t really matter to me. I just want to play the game of basketball.”

Bennett had a disappointing rookie season after coming back from shoulder surgery and doesn't find the uncertainty on his future distracting.

“Not distracting at all, just still focused on what I have to do, just working hard, keep my body healthy, just watching what I eat,” Bennett said.

“Last summer I couldn’t really do anything, just was pretty much out from the jump. This summer I was back on track right after the season, just watching everything I do, watching what I eat, just making sure everything is right for Summer League. I’m continuing more so I can be ready for the season.”

Nerlens Noel Credits Rondo For Being Biggest Help In Recovery

Aug 17, 2014 10:35 AM

Nerlens Noel credits Rajon Rondo for being the biggest help in recovering from a torn ACL.

Noel and Rondo each played collegiately at Kentucky.

"With all the support and love, certain guys, especially Rajon Rondo -- he was definitely the biggest helper through this whole process, he actually gave me his phone number and told me I could hit him up whenever about it. Being from Boston, watching him growing up, and he went through it and he came back as strong as possible, actually before me, so it gave me a lot of confidence, having his good faith."

Noel will begin his rookie season one year after being drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers.
