Ford: Dario Saric Is One Of The Better Playmaking Fours

May 27, 2015 5:32 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers own the draft rights to Dario Saric and Chad Ford was asked during his chat how he would rank in this year's class.

"Probably Top 10. But maybe higher based on the NBA's infatuation at the moment with playmaking fours," writes Ford. "Everyone wants a Draymond Green right now and Saric is one of the best playmaking fours I've seen in the draft for a while. Zach Lowe did a great story on this yesterday worth reading. But given that criteria, Saric would be very intriguing to teams. I think given the way the NBA is playing right now, he could be a very valuable piece for the Sixers when he decides to come."

Saric was the 12th overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft and currently plays for Anadolu Efes.

Joel Embiid Sits In On 76ers' Meetings With Prospects At Combine

May 14, 2015 11:55 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers included Joel Embiid in their meetings at the NBA Draft Combine in what is an unprecedented move.

Embiid sat in on about seven interviews with prospective future teammates; he also was at the gym watching workouts and also sat in on some more interviews.

"I think it was a great idea to have him come here," said Brown, who noted the idea was both his and Embiid's. "He gets a chance to talk to the guys who may be his future teammates. He gets to listen to the answers to the questions that we ask, whether it be about their character, work ethic, whatever it may be.

"He is the cornerstone of the program right now, and to have him here is a real treat for both him and us. We want him being involved in our decisions moving forward. We're all in this together, and Joe knows that he is a very big piece for all of us moving forward. The more we can get him involved in everything is just better for everyone. I think this is the first time anyone has done anything like this."

76ers Release New Brand Identity (Photo)

May 12, 2015 12:23 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers released a new brand identity on Tuesday.

The new primary logo is not a complete departure from previous versions, as it is a modern interpretation of the classic Sixers insignia, stylistically redeveloped to include a patriotic blue border with six white stars and “PHILADELPHIA” adorned across the heading.

The 76ers also now have a secondary logo featuring Benjamin Franklin dribbling a basketball, which was leaked several months ago.

The 76ers will also release new uniforms next month.

76ers Passed On Paul Pierce In 1998 Due To Larry Hughes' Promise

May 6, 2015 11:00 AM

During a Philadelphia radio interview with 97.5 The Fanatic on Wednesday, Larry Brown remembered that the Philadelphia 76ers actually ranked Paul Pierce the No. 2 prospect in 1998.

But the 76ers passed on Pierce and instead selected Larry Hughes.

Pierce and Allen Iverson could have formed a remarkable scoring tandem.

"We took Larry Hughes because (with the eighth pick) because we thought we had a need," he said. "But the reason we took Larry is I promised him when we interviewed him -- we knew we were getting the eighth pick -- I promised him if he was there at (No.) 8 we would take him."

The ill-advised promise changed Brown's draft strategy.

"I always think you should take the very best player," he said. "Whatever we wrote on the board, we used to write by position during the draft the best players, then we would write needs, and then we would write the best players period. And I always used to tell our staff, we've gotta go for the best player period and not even think about our needs, unless they were very, very close."
