Exec: Meeting With Rich Paul On LeBron Was For Them To Publicize Their Business

Oct 31, 2014 1:23 PM

LeBron James empowered his agent Rich Paul to meet with several teams to Klutch’s offices in Cleveland for free-agent presentations without him present.

Those meetings were leaked to the public and the perception was that they were conducted to garner attention to their agency.

The Phoenix Suns, Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks met with Paul, in addition to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

“Just used as props to get attention and publicize their business,” one league executive told Yahoo Sports. “Maybe that’s smart to some people, but you have to deal with the same people again and again in this league. Those things can come back on you eventually.”

Popovich Fires Back At Sarver Apologizing To Phoenix Crowd For Spurs' Absent Players

Oct 18, 2014 7:37 PM

Gregg Popovich responded Saturday to Robert Sarver, who grabbed a mic late in Thursday’s exhibition game to apologize to the Phoenix Suns' home crowd after five San Antonio Spurs players missed the game.

“As I said, the silliness begins," Popovich said. "Most wise individuals would check facts before they made statements. Unless you’re interested in putting on a show. In that case, the facts get in your way, as in this case.

“We had five guys we didn’t send: Patty Mills had a shoulder operation. Tiago Splitter has been out the whole preseason. Kawhi Leonard was out and is still out for 10 more days. The other two, Duncan and Ginobili, are two of the oldest guys in the league who just came back from a 13-day European trip.

“The only thing that surprises me is that he didn’t say it in a chicken suit. I’ll just leave it at that.”

Suns Consider Keeping Earl Barron For Season

Oct 17, 2014 5:48 PM

The Phoenix Suns have 15 guaranteed contracts and a non-guaranteed deal in Earl Barron remains on the roster.

Barron is still a candidate to stay with the Suns into the regular season.

Barron could be competing with Shavlik Randolph for the 15th spot; Randolph has guaranteed salary for $1.23 million.

"The one guy that sticks out and is really fighting for the team is Earl Barron," Jeff Hornacek said. "He's still on the roster for a reason. I know our guys are saying, 'If he's going to help us and we have to eat a contract somewhere, I think Robert (Sarver, the managing partner) is willing to do that.' If it's going to help us win games and he's better than another guy, Robert is all for it."

Suns Expect To Have Cap Space While Keeping Core In Place In Coming Seasons

Oct 7, 2014 6:48 PM

The Phoenix Suns signed Eric Bledsoe, Markieff Morris and Marcus Morris to new contracts recently, which look like even better deals in light of the NBA's new television contract.

"We feel like the contracts were good values for us, regardless of the new TV deal," Suns General Manager Ryan McDonough said. "The incoming revenue will change the financial picture of the league going forward. It will have a drastic impact on the salary cap. We were aware it was going to increase significantly. We factored that in."

The Suns have a good portion of their core under contract already, which could give them cap space when it escalates in the coming seasons.

"Between the contract extensions and the guys we've drafted in the past two years, we have most of our players under control for a long time," McDonough said. "With the cap escalating in a few years, we'll have some opportunities to add to our nucleus, keeping the core guys here but adding good guys to go along with them and push us to that championship level."
