Maloofs Hope To Extend Petrie's Contract Soon

Dec 16, 2009 3:59 PM

The Kings are looking to extend the contract of president of basketball operations Geoff Petrie.

Sacramento co-owner Gavin Maloof said back in September that Petrie would be a "King for life" despite the fact that his contract only runs through the 2009-10 season.

"We want to look at (negotiating an extension) within the next couple weeks," co-owner Joe Maloof said, mentioning a timetable for the first time.

"We'll sit down with Geoff and discuss the state of the franchise, talk to him about his feelings on the team, how he feels about the situation and go from there and try to work a nice agreement for both parties."

Petrie is among the highest-paid general managers, earning $4.6 million this season on a contract that was signed long before the economy caused the current financial downturn in the NBA.

Flynn Heaps Praise On Fellow Rookie Evans

Dec 13, 2009 10:26 AM

Timberwolves guard Jonny Flynn had nothing but praise for fellow rookie Tyreke Evans on Saturday night.

Sacramento defeated Minnesota 120-100 at Arco Arena.

"He's a big, strong guard, crafty, always has scoring on his mind," said Flynn. "I think if they put the right lineup out there, he could probably play power forward, too. Not center, but maybe power forward. He's just so big for a guard. He's going to be a great player."

Evans is averaging 20.0 points, 5.1 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game this season.
