Kings Decline 14-15 Option On Jimmer Fredette

Oct 31, 2013 4:36 PM

The Sacramento Kings have elected not to pick up their 14-15 option on Jimmer Fredette.

Fredette would have been due $3.1 million if the Kings exercised the option.

Fredette was the No. 10 overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft ahead of Klay Thompson, Kawhi Leonard and Iman Shumpert.

Fredette will become an unrestricted free agent in July.

Kings Maintaining Extension Talks With Greivis Vasquez

Oct 27, 2013 1:06 AM

The Sacramento Kings are maintaining talks with Greivis Vasquez on a potential contract extension before the Oct. 31 deadline for 2010 draft picks.

The Kings also could extend the contract of Patrick Patterson, and the organization has to decide whether to exercise the team option on Jimmer Fredette's deal for 2014-15, worth $3.3 million.

"We're still looking at things and evaluating before making a decision," general manager Pete D'Alessandro said. "… I think there's some spirited conversations going on about all the guys near the deadline."

The Kings signed DeMarcus Cousins to an extension worth four years and $62 million. An extension for Vasquez or Patterson would be worth considerably less.

Execs See Jimmer Fredette Thriving If Dealt To Jazz

Oct 25, 2013 10:55 AM

Jimmer Fredette has had a slow start to his NBA career, but he did average 18 points per 36 minutes while hitting 41 percent of his three-point shots.

Fredette's minutes were inconsistent last season and the guard position is still crowded for the Sacramento Kings.

Multiple NBA executives told the Salt Lake Tribune that joining the Utah Jazz would make sense for both Fredette and the franchise.

Fredette remains hugely popular in Utah due to his time at BYU, while he would also give the Jazz a needed floor spacer.

Brendan Malone Resigns As Assistant Coach Of Kings

Oct 24, 2013 1:13 AM

The Sacramento Kings have accepted the resignation of assistant coach Brendan Malone, effective immediately.

No replacement will be made at this time and Chris Jent will assume responsibilities as the lead assistant on head coach Michael Malone’s staff moving forward.

“As a veteran of 27 seasons in the NBA coaching ranks, Brendan brought a wealth of experience and knowledge to our organization, and we were all fortunate to have had an opportunity to work with him,” Kings general manager Pete D’Alessandro said in a statement. “His departure is not indicative of a loss of passion for the game or his desire to help our franchise succeed, but rather a decision based on factors associated with the rigors of coaching in the NBA.”

“I’m thankful that I had my father on our staff during the summer and throughout training camp as I transitioned into a head coaching role,” Michael Malone said. “He was my father long before we became colleagues, and while I’ll miss his presence on the bench, he will always be an invaluable source of counsel on all matters basketball and otherwise.”

Kings Want New Arena To Become Architectural Landmark

Oct 12, 2013 3:50 PM

The Sacramento Kings reviewed design ideas from 12 architects in July for their new arena, but Vivek Ranadive did not see one that matched his vision.

Ranadive is aiming for the arena to become an architectural icon beyond just Sacramento.

Ranadive alludes to the Sydney Opera House of San Francisco's Transamerica Pyramid as the type of achievement he is seeking.

"When you buy a postcard of California, it's going to have our arena on it," said Ranadive.

Jimmer Fredette Hoping Kings Will Have Consistent Rotation

Oct 1, 2013 11:24 PM

Jimmer Fredette's playing time was inconsistent last season, and he often played off the ball. The third-year guard is searching for a more consistent role and rotation under Mike Malone.

"We didn't know what the rotation was (last season)," Fredette said. "Guys didn't know if they were going to play one game and not the next so you just had to try to stay ready and prepare as much as you can. It's hard for players to be able to do that but you're professionals so that's what you have to do.

"Hopefully this year we'll have more of a set rotation so we'll know when we're going to play and who we're going to play with."

Fredette said he feels most comfortable playing point guard but will welcome game action whenever he can get it.

Fredette's minutes decreased from 18 minutes a game as a rookie to 14 last season.
