Willie Reed has reached agreement with the Sacramento Kings on a contract for the remainder of the season, his agent Joel Bell told RealGM.
The deal contains a team option for next season.
Reed, a 6-foot-10 forward with the Springfield Armor of the NBA D-League, has averaged 14.8 points, 10.1 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and 59 percent shooting this season. He went to training camp with the Kings in 2012, and the team remains enamored with his activity and athleticism.
Reed finished last season with the Memphis Grizzlies and participated with their summer league team, but he was released prior to 2013-14.
Reed, 23, played two seasons at Saint Louis University, where he averaged 12.4 points and 7.9 rebounds as a sophomore.
Orlando Johnson was not signed by the Sacramento Kings after the expiration of his second 10-day contract.
The Kings had to decide whether to sign Johnson for the remainder of the season.
Johnson averaged 1.3 points in seven appearances for the Kings.
The New York Knicks are expected to pursue Steve Kerr as their next head coach.
Phil Jackson had convinced Kerr to come to Seattle as his coach, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
The Seattle ownership group was planning on hiring Jackson for a front office role similar to the one he signed with the Knicks.
Derrick Williams continues to be between positions at small forward and power forward.
Williams is one of the most athletic players on the Sacramento Kings, but utilizing and maximizing that ability hasn't been consistent.
If Rudy Gay returns to the Kings next season, he will take the starting spot at small forward, which would leave Williams vying for the spot at power forward.
“This last stretch, I want to use it to prove that I should be starting,” Williams said. “And that’s the main goal, to prove it to Coach and finish the season strong as a team and see what works best.”
“You go back to his days at Arizona, when he was the No. 2 pick, he played a lot of four (power forward),” Mike Malone said. “I see in the NBA if a bigger guy is guarding him, he can take that guy out on the perimeter. If you play him at the small forward, you can post him up some. He’s got that versatility and athleticism that is very attractive."
Williams is a good matchup against more athletic power forwards.
“The league is getting a lot smaller it seems, and I think Derrick’s versatility is a real advantage when you play him at the four,” Malone said. “Now you have a quick and athletic lineup.”
Royce White will receive a second 10-day contract with the Sacramento Kings.
White is remaining in Sacramento working on his strength and conditioning while the Kings are on the road.
White may be available for Tuesday's game against the Washington Wizards.
Carl Landry will miss the remainder of the season after a recent MRI revealed a medial meniscus tear in his right knee.
Surgery will be scheduled in the near future.
Landry averaged 4.2 points, 3.2 rebounds and 12.9 minutes per game in 18 games this season.
The Sacramento Kings have signed Orlando Johnson to a second 10-day contract.
Johnson was released by the Indiana Pacers on Feb. 20 and subsequently signed with the Kings.
Johnson has averaged 9.0 in five appearances with the Kings.
The Sacramento Kings will sign Royce White to a 10-day contract and immediately assign him to the Reno Big Horns of the D-League.
The Kings will have four games to evaluate White and if his stint goes well, they will likely sign him to a second 10-day deal to join the NBA team.
White is expected to practice with the Big Horns on Thursday in Reno.
Tibco provided the Sacramento Kings with approximately $400,000 worth of software and technology services last year.
Tibco is also owned by Vivek Ranadive.
The Kings' new smartphone app was designed by Tibco, but it is unclear what else was provided by the company.
In exchange for Tibco’s technology, the Kings gave the team signage at Sleep Train Arena, sponsorship opportunities and other “promotional and marketing rights,” the company said.
Tibco reported revenue of $1.07 billion in 2013.
