Pacers Expressing Interest In MarShon Brooks

Aug 4, 2014 6:38 PM

Scouring for a wing player in the aftermath of Paul George’s leg injury, the Indiana Pacers have MarShon Brooks on a short list of free agent possibilities, league sources told RealGM.

Brooks played for the Sacramento Kings in the Las Vegas summer league last month, averaging 10.1 points and 53.1 percent field-goal shooting in seven games. After a disappointing stretch early in his career, Brooks has needed to re-prove himself as an effective NBA scorer whom the Brooklyn Nets acquired with the 25th pick in the 2011 NBA draft.

After four collegiate seasons at Providence, Brooks averaged 12.6 points as a rookie, but the 6-foot-5 swingman has suffered fluctuation of his playing time and game condition. Brooks, 25, has played three pro seasons with four different teams, scoring 7.7 points per game while shooting 44.2 percent.

The Kings and an Eastern Conference contender have also been in discussions with Brooks, sources told RealGM. Brooks split last season with the Boston Celtics, Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers.

George sustained a fracture in his right leg in Team USA's exhibition game on Friday night, a devastating blow to one of the league’s best talents, the Pacers and USA Basketball. His dad, Paul George Sr., told the Indianapolis Star that the expectation is for George to miss the entire 2014-15 season. Nevertheless, George has received a stream of support – privately and publicly – from teammates, former teammates and competitors.

“Paul’s character," one league friend said when asked about a leading reason for the outpouring encouragement since George's injury.
