Kurt Rambis High On Rajon Rondo, Believes He Can Play In Triangle

Mar 20, 2016 12:41 AM

Kurt Rambis is high on Rajon Rondo and what he might be able to accomplish in the triangle offense, according to an NBA source.

Steve Mills met with agent Bill Duffy for approximately 30 minutes during the New York Knicks' trip to Oakland.

Rondo and Derek Fisher both publicly questioned his viability in the triangle offense.

The triangle offense typically needs a point guard who is a high quality perimeter shooter.

Kings Unlikely To Make DeMarcus Cousins Available Until 2017 Deadline

Mar 17, 2016 4:35 PM

With the Sacramento Kings moving into a new arena and likely to undergo a coaching change in the offseason, DeMarcus Cousins is unlikely to be traded in the offseason.

Cousins still has two seasons remaining on his contract.

The Kings are unlikely to make Cousins truly available until the February 2017 trade deadline.

When the Kings and Los Angeles Lakers engaged on trade talks last June, Sacramento was seeking the No. 2 overall pick, Julius Randle, Jordan Clarkson and future draft considerations for Cousins.

Cauley-Stein: I Can Guard Five Positions, There Should Never Be Matchup Problems

Mar 10, 2016 3:28 PM

George Karl has been reluctant to play Willie-Cauley Stein consistently, especially since he is so versatile on defense.

Karl addressed Cauley-Stein’s inconsistent minutes after the loss to the Cavaliers.

“My whole feeling is, don’t overreact to the last three or four games,” Karl said. “One, I think was matchup, two, I think was just the personality of the game. Willie’s going to be fine, he’s going to get plenty of minutes over these next 20 games.”

Cauley-Stein responded to the comments.

“That’s funny, that’s funny, kind of flimsy, cus’ I can guard five positions, so that’s redundant otherwise I wouldn’t be here,” Cauley-Stein said. “There should be no matchup problems ever. So that’s just an excuse I think. However, I’m not the coach.”

George Karl To Undergo Cancer-Related Procedure On Throat

Mar 10, 2016 3:02 AM

George Karl will undergo a cancer-related procedure in his throat on Thursday and will miss practice. Karl is a two-time cancer survivor.

“I’m having a procedure for a cancer in my throat,” Karl said.

When asked if the procedure was serious, Karl said “no” twice.

The Sacramento Kings will give Karl all of the time he needs.

“Coach told me the other day,” Divac said. “I told him to take as much time as he needs. … We probably won’t know the results for a couple days.”

Karl has missed just one game this season. He did not coach the Kings’ loss at New Orleans on Jan. 28 due to food poisoning.

Carmelo Anthony Wants Bigger Role In Free Agency, Begins Lobbying For Rondo

Mar 7, 2016 6:20 PM

Carmelo Anthony would like to take a more active role in the New York Knicks' free agency meetings this offseason.

“Put me at the head of the (meeting) table,” Anthony said. “And let’s go to work.”

Anthony would like the Knicks to pursue Rajon Rondo, who doesn't view himself as a good fit in the triangle offense.

“I think Rondo — just me personally, I don’t want to be tampering — but I’ve heard he said he wouldn’t thrive in a system like this,” Anthony said. “I think he’d be perfect in a system like this.”

Anthony refuted the notion that Rondo's penetration and lack of shooting would be a bad fit in the triangle.

“It is a misconception about that. Some of the keys of our offense is penetration, getting in the paint,” Anthony said. “Pushing the pace, transition. Creating in the paint for bigs, for yourself, everybody else. I think a point guard would love that. Especially a point guard who can penetrate, create for yourself, create for others. I think it’s a perfect opportunity for him.”

The Knicks will have significant cap space.

“I don’t really have a choice. If we want this team to be better, if we want more pieces of this team, I don’t have a choice but to go out there and do my job and try to get people to come,” he said. “And for them to see it from my perspective than anybody else’s perspective. See it from a player’s perspective.”
