Rudy Gay Denies Asking For Trade, Has No Idea On Direction Of Kings' Franchise

Jul 27, 2016 12:39 PM

Rudy Gay was asked about how he's handling reports the Sacramento Kings are looking to trade him this offseason.

"I mean it's been pretty loud as of late so it's hard not to pay attention to it," said Gay. "I think it just goes to, I don't know, I think there's always ways to do things and in this situation I don't think it's going about the right way. No matter what your intentions to do with your players, I would think the first thing you want to do is make sure people are happy with what you are doing. That hasn't been the case."

Gay hasn't had much communication with the franchise.

"No, I haven't. I've had communication, but not the kind of communication that I would say I like," Gay said.

Gay elaborated on hearing things through media reports instead of direct communication.

"You don't want to hear things on the internet, on Twitter. You would like to hear it from out of the horse's mouth. Just be upfront with people, that's all you have to do," Gay said.

Gay also denied that he's asked for a trade.

"No. I think people saw my disinterest, not disinterest, but I think people saw what went on this season and kind of went on that to say that I asked for a trade. I still feel like I had a lot more to give ... because of the structure of the team I wasn't able to give everything."

Gay also has no idea what the direction of the franchise is right now as they move into a new arena.

"I have no idea. I suit up and give it my all. That's all I can do in this situation, that's all you can do. Go out there and play as much as you can. Obviously, we don't have anything to really build on. We have a new coach. I think that's the only thing we can really build on. New coach and seeing how it plays out."

Kings To Name Street Leading To New Arena After David Stern

Jul 26, 2016 11:14 AM

The Sacramento Kings will name the street leading to the front door of their new arena in honor of David Stern.

Stern helped keep the Kings from relocating away from Sacramento.

“When I learned we would have the option of naming the road, it was a no-brainer for me,” Kings principal owner Vivek Ranadive told The Sacramento Bee on Monday. “There were no other names on my list. David took the NBA to the global level and started the WNBA, but he is about so much more than basketball. He is one of the greatest leaders in the world, and on top of that, the team would not be in Sacramento without David Stern.”

Stern was told about the plan during a visit from Ranadive in April.

“Vivek asked if he could stop by, and I said, ‘Sure,’ ” Stern said late Monday. “He said, ‘In light of your 30 years as commissioner and everything you have done for Sacramento, we’d like to name the street on which Golden 1 Center sits in your name.’ I was deeply touched. I said, ‘Now what do I do?’ He said, ‘You have to come out for the dedication on Sept. 30 and the first home game of the season (date to be determined).’ I said, ‘Sure.’ ”

Stern convinced the league’s owners to resist the Maloofs’ proposed relocation to Anaheim in 2011. In 2013, he helped assemble the ownership group headed by Ranadive, a move that thwarted the Maloofs’ sale of the franchise to Seattle’s Steve Ballmer and Chris Hansen.

DeMarcus Cousins sometimes resembles a wing player in the body of a big at 6'11, 270 pounds.

Cousins cites Carmelo Anthony as his favorite player of all-time.

“I’m a fan of any player with skill,” Cousins said. “ ... Melo being my favorite player of all time, I’m trying to pick his brain every second I can.”

Cousins and Anthony are teammates on Team USA.

“It’s dope,” Cousins said after a recent practice at the Mendenhall Center. “I enjoy being around him. He’s got so so much experience in this game. It’s well known that I’ve been a Melo fan my whole life. Just to be able to work with him daily is going to help me become a better player. I’m excited for it."
