Kings Decline Qualifying Offer To Ben McLemore

Jun 28, 2017 4:18 PM

The Sacramento Kings will decline their qualifying offer to Ben McLemore.

McLemore will be an unrestricted free agent.

McLemore was the seventh overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft.

After the Kings drafted DeMarcus Cousins in 2010, they then drafted Jimmer Fredette, Thomas Robinson, McLemore and Nik Stauskas. None of those top-10 picks remained with the team to a second contract, while Robinson and Stauskas didn't even remain into a second season.

The Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics, Phoenix Suns and Sacramento Kings comprise the top-5.

The Knicks would like to target Josh Jackson if they do move up.

Phil Jackson expressed in an MSG interview that he's still disappointed that Porzingis skipping his exit meeting.

"I don't think I've ever had a player over 25 years of coaching not coming to an exit meeting, so it hasn't happened to me,'' Jackson said. "It happens to other people and other players. His brother and his agent have downplayed it, but still it's a chance for a person to express themselves. I had a real good relationship with Kristaps over the last two years. It was kind of surprising.''

In 2004, Shaquille O'Neal skipped his exit meeting with the Jackson-coached Lakers.

Kings Declined Lakers' Offer Of No. 2 For Nos. 5, 10

Jun 21, 2017 10:55 AM

The Los Angeles Lakers attempted to trade the No. 2 pick to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for the No. 5 and No. 10 picks in the draft.

The Lakers would have packaged one of the two Kings' picks to the Indiana Pacers along with 27, 28 and salary cap filler for Paul George.

The Kings declined the offer as they believe they can get the player they want at No. 5 while keeping a second top-10 pick in what's considered a deep draft.

The Lakers are expected to select Lonzo Ball at No. 2 if they keep their pick.

Chris Granger Steps Down As President Of Kings

Jun 19, 2017 8:13 PM

Chris Granger has stepped down as president of the Sacramento Kings.

Granger was hired by Vivek Ranadive in August 2013 to oversee the team’s business operations.

Granger previously worked for former NBA Commissioner David Stern at the league’s New York headquarters.

“I just feel it’s time,” Granger said Monday. “I’m not leaving for another job. There is nothing imminent. But I want to do something else, to be challenged in a position working with multiple sports, maybe the Olympics, something with a bigger platform. With the arena, this job will be about selling corporate sponsorships, and I just think there’s one more big move in me. Plus, my girls are entering middle school, so this seems like the right time.”
