Popovich: Spurs To Remain On Course, Unlikely To Make Significant Changes To Roster

Jun 22, 2013 9:17 PM

The San Antonio Spurs are unlikely to make significant changes to their roster after losing Game 7 of the NBA Finals.

“People have been telling us we need to get younger 15 years ago,” Gregg Popovich said. “At one point I guess we will be too old. Who knows when that is? Going to the conference finals last year and the Finals this year proves something is going right. I think we’ll just stay on course with the way we do things.”

Popovich is confident the Spurs will be motivated to contend again next season.

“(This year) reminded me, and Timmy (Duncan) and Tony (Parker) and Manu (Ginobili) again, we forgot how hard it is to get there,” he said. “It took forever to play all those games. So that was a big revelation for us. We just whipped through it in the past. This year, it was like, ‘My gosh, did we really do this four times?’

“So why not try to do it again? That’s what we’re here for. We will or we won’t, but we’ll certainly give it our best effort.”

Game 7 Had 17.7 Rating, Slightly Behind 2010's 18.2

Jun 21, 2013 7:18 PM

Game 7 of the 2013 NBA Finals had a 17.7 overnight rating, a strong finish for ABC after the initial four games of the series had somewhat disappointing viewership.

The game ranks second since ABC began carrying the Finals, trailing Game 7 in 2010 between the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics. That game between two teams with bigger markets and a more storied history had an 18.2 rating.

The telecast on Thursday peaked at a 22.6 rating between 11:30 PM and 11:45 PM EST.
