Nick Kerr To Join Spurs As Video Coordinator

May 30, 2017 7:42 PM

Nick Kerr, son of Steve Kerr, will join the San Antonio Spurs this offseason in a video role.

Kerr played collegiately at UC San Diego before transferring to Cal as a graduate student.

With Steve Kerr not on the sidelines during the playoffs, he's been watching the games with Nick.

"He’s been at pretty much every practice the last two postseasons–once the Cal season ended the last two years he just came down and rebounded and watched film with our staff. So he’s getting a pretty good education here," said Steve Kerr.

Nick Kerr will work for Gregg Popovich, who coached Steve Kerr as a player.

"It’s good for him to go out and do his own thing; pretty good opportunity to go work for the best in the business," said Steve Kerr.

We’re going to miss him."

Clippers Concerned By Spurs' Possible Pursuit Of Chris Paul

May 26, 2017 12:05 PM

The Los Angeles Clippers can offer Chris Paul an extra guaranteed season and bigger raises than any rival team, but the team still remains concerned about their ability to re-sign him in free agency.

The Clippers are treating the San Antonio Spurs as a serious threat of signing Paul. The Spurs don't currently have enough cap space to sign Paul to a max contract, but they could conceivably clear room.

The Spurs' point guard situation is uncertain with Tony Parker having one more season left on his contract and coming off a left leg injury while Patty Mills is an unrestricted free agent.

In addition to Paul, the Clippers also have Blake Griffin and J.J. Redick hitting free agency.

Chris Paul, Spurs Believed To Have Mutual Interest

May 24, 2017 1:16 PM

Chris Paul is widely expected to re-sign with the Los Angeles Clippers this offseason in free agency, but the San Antonio Spurs are lurking as a potential destination.

“I know they’re concerned about their point guard position," said Zach Lowe on The Lowe Post podcast. "Dejounte Murray looks good, but he’s not ready yet."

"They need a bridge there, right?" said Kevin Arnovitz. "They need a little bit of a bridge between (Tony) Parker and Murray."

"Maybe Mills is the bridge but Mills is about to get expensive and I think we saw in this series that he's just not a drive and kick guy. That's just who he is. Patty Mills is great for what he is.

"I know there's been a lot of rumblings about Chris Paul, and I think that's real. I think there's mutual interest there. I don't know how real it is given that the Clippers can offer a gigantic amount of money and are also a really good team. The Spurs, like I said, have no sort of cap flexibility to get there. I'm very curious about what they do this summer and who's on the team next year. And maybe rolling it back is all they can end up doing."

Manu Ginobili Undecided About Retirement

May 23, 2017 10:12 AM

Manu Ginobili is unsure if he will continue his career in 17-18 or retire as he turns 40 this summer.

The San Antonio Spurs started Ginobili in a playoff game in Game 4 for the first time since 2013.

"I do feel like I can still play," Ginobili said. "But that's not what is going to make me retire or not. It's about how I feel -- if I want to go through all that again. It felt like they wanted me to retire, like they were giving me sort of a celebration night. And of course, I'm getting closer and closer. There is no secret, for sure. It's getting harder and harder. But I always said that I wanted to let it sink in for three weeks, four weeks, whatever, and then I will sit with my wife and see how it feels.

"Whatever I decide to do, I'll be a happy camper. I have to choose between two wonderful, truly wonderful options. One is to keep playing in this league at this age, enjoying every day, playing the sport I still love. The other one is to stay at home, be a dad, travel more, enjoy my family. Whatever it is, it's two unbelievable options. So there is no way I can be sad, because whatever I decide, it's going to be great."

Gregg Popovich said he won't try to persuade Ginobili to continue playing.

"If he decides to play again, that's up to him," Popovich said. "But I won't try to convince him one way or the other. I don't think he needs that."

The San Antonio Spurs are already without Tony Parker for the remainder of the playoffs, while Kawhi Leonard has sat out Games 2 and 3.

Kawhi Leonard Doesn't Practice, Remains Questionable For Game 3

May 19, 2017 1:29 AM

Kawhi Leonard remains questionable for Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals on Saturday.

Leonard was at the San Antonio Spurs' practice facility on Thursday but did not participate in the workout.

"He was sitting nicely on the sidelines. It's going well, as well as it can go," Pau Gasol said. "We have a good training staff. He's working with them and trying to get that ankle right. That's what I know."

Leonard reinjured his left ankle during the third quarter of Game 1. Leonard sat out Game 2 on Tuesday.

"The thing that worries me is that he did it again, the exact same thing," Popovich said. "So one would logically think maybe it will take longer, but I'm hoping that's not true and we'll have him for Game 3."
