Raptors Reach Agreement With Mickael Pietrus, McGuire To Be Waived

Nov 29, 2012 11:26 PM

Mickael Pietrus has reached agreement on a one-year, veteran-minimum contract with the Toronto Raptors, agent Bill McCandless confirmed to RealGM on Thursday night. The deal will be made official Friday, McCandless confirmed.

"It came down, in the end, to choosing the team who liked him best," said McCandless.

USA Today first reported Pietrus’ deal with the Raptors.

In the end, Pietrus passed up five offers – from the Atlanta Hawks, Indiana Pacers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Philadelphia 76ers and San Antonio Spurs – due to the Raptors’ relentless pursuit. Recently, Pietrus rejected the Spurs’ offer of a contract guaranteeing just one month.

Pietrus’ camp has been in dialogue with the Raptors since the offseason, and Toronto general manager Bryan Colangelo has attempted to acquire the 6-foot-6 forward through trade in the past.

Dominic McGuire will be waived by the Raptors to make room on the roster, agent Mark Bartelstein told RealGM.

Pietrus, 30, has averaged 8.4 points and 3.1 rebounds in his nine-year NBA career with four different teams. Pietrus, who has been training in France for months, has established himself as a solid outside shooter and a top-tier wing defender when healthy.

Casey: Raptors Need To Be Team That Fights Together

Nov 28, 2012 11:37 AM

The Toronto Raptors are 3-12 this season and have lost five in a row after dropping a 117-101 decision at the Rockets on Tuesday.

“We have to decide what type of team we want to be,” said Dwane Casey. “Do we want to be a team that gives in to a little bit of frustration just because someone makes a three-point shot on you or do you want to be a team that fights together, stays together and hangs in there together and lets the chips fall where they may?

“And I think we’re the latter.”

The Raptors have particularly struggled on defense and allowed 1.245 points per possession to the Rockets in the game.

DeRozan Developed Post Game Watching Tape Of Wade

Nov 14, 2012 7:18 PM

DeMar DeRozan has a new contract with the Toronto Raptors and is taking a big step forward in his fourth year in the NBA.

DeRozan watched tape of Dwyane Wade in the post during the offseason because he wanted to incorporate some of those aspects into his own game when he has a length advantage over his defender.

DeRozan is even understanding when to pass out of the post when the double-team arrives.

"He is reading defences, he is passing the ball out, that. That is what I love," Dwane Casey explained. "He is doing a heck of a job maturing as a basketball player. That is what is beautiful to see."

DeRozan has increased his assist rate and is playing with more confidence.

"Just try to do more than what I did before," DeRozan said of his expanding game. "That's rebounding, assists, playing defense, playing the passing lanes, getting steals. Just trying to do everything."
