Wilson Chandler Has Until Thursday To Sign Offer Sheet With Rival Team

Feb 28, 2012 9:55 AM

Wilson Chandler has until Thursday to receive an offer sheet from another team as he could only play for the Nuggets thereafter.

Chandler met with the Raptors last week, but no offer has been made.

Agent Chris Luchey confirmed that a one-year deal is out.

If Chandler doesn't sign a long-term deal with Denver, he won't play until the 12-13 season.

Luchey said "we're considering all options" and that it's realistic that Chandler could sign with a professional team in Italy this spring.

Feb 26, 2012 11:12 PM

The Magic are denying a rumor that they have reached a deal with the Lakers and Raptors involving Dwight Howard.

Howard, Hedo Turkoglu and Jameer Nelson would go to the Lakers, while the Magic would receive Andrew Bynum, Pau Gasol and possibly Jose Calderon.

Alex Martins, CEO of the Magic, confirmed to the Sentinel that the rumor is wrong.

Wilson Chandler Interested In Joining Raptors

Feb 23, 2012 10:38 AM

Wilson Chandler might be signing with the Raptors, according to his agent, Chris Luchey.

"We are exploring all avenues," Luchey said. "Our talks [with Denver] thus far have been OK. It's just the nature [of free agency]. They have options and Will has options."

Chandler visited Toronto on Tuesday and is talking to six other teams.

The Raptors have the salary cap room to add Chandler without the use of an exception.

Raptors Fielding Calls On Calderon

Feb 23, 2012 10:29 AM

Dwane Casey said the Raptors have received calls from teams interested in trading for Jose Calderon.

“We’re trying to hold on to him and keep him, but he has played his way into a very high status as a point guard,” Casey said Wednesday. “A lot of teams have been calling and wanting him.”

Calderon is averaging 16.7 points and 11.1 assists over his last seven games.

Casey Wants Raptors To Seamlessly Switch Defensive Schemes

Feb 22, 2012 10:45 AM

Dwane Casey set a preseason goal of getting the Raptors to the middle of the pack in defensive efficiency. Nearing the halfway point of the season, the Raptors rank 17th in points allowed per 100 possessions.

“Defensively, they picked up the zone quicker than I thought,” Casey said. “There are some nuances in it that we haven’t grasped.”

Casey said he wants the team eventually to be able to switch from man-to-man to zone defense and back again seamlessly, but lack of practice time has been an obstacle.

“No question, it’s going to wait until next training camp,” Casey said. “The worst thing we could do right now is add more defensive schemes [before] we are near perfect on what we’re doing right now. Lord knows we are nowhere near perfect as far as our defensive execution right now.”

Casey: Raptors Have Lost Defensive Edge

Feb 19, 2012 2:39 PM

Dwane Casey said the Raptors have let go of the defensive principles that guided them at the start of the season.

“We have lost our attention to detail,” Casey said. “I know that’s a nebulous word but being in position where you are supposed to be when the ball is on the floor. Impacting the ball on pick-and-rolls, we have lost that focus in the search of trying to score points.”

The Raptors rank 18th in defensive efficiency at 104 points allowed per 100 possessions. Casey said lack of practice time has had an effect.

“It’s a tight rope,” he said. “You emphasize one thing and you lose the other. Without practice that happens. Defensively we have just lost our edge.”

Raptors Weeks Ago Discussed Anthony Carter For Lin Trade With Knicks

Feb 14, 2012 2:10 PM

The Knicks and Raptors discussed a trade of Anthony Carter for Jeremy Lin.

New York was interested in bringing back Carter to bring stability to the point guard position.

“We knew one thing about him after bringing (Lin) in,” said Bryan Colangelo. “We knew he was one tough kid.

“He took one of the hardest hits I’ve ever seen on a court and one of the toughest falls. He got hit from behind, crashed to the floor, eventually got up. We didn’t think he’d get up, to be honest. And he shook it off and continued the workout.

“We were extremely impressed by that.”

Bargnani Rehabilitating Injury With Water Work

Feb 12, 2012 2:32 PM

Andrea Bargnani has been rehabilitating his strained calf by performing non-weight-bearing exercises in a swimming pool.

“He did a lot of pool work trying to get his calf going,” coach Dwane Casey. “He’s working hard on it every day. I think we’re going to try to step it up in the next week or so to get more of a weight-bearing load on it. But there’s still no time table as far as what day he’s getting back or if he’s going to come back before all-star game.

“It’s more running in the pool. Alex [McKechnie, Raptors director of sports science] has him doing all of these exercises with different types of weights.”

Bargnani has averaged 23.5 points and 6.4 rebounds in 13 games this season.

Bargnani Could Miss Extended Time With Strained Calf

Feb 10, 2012 10:33 AM

Andre Bargnani has missed eight consecutive games with a strained left calf muscle. His return is still unknown.

“His timeframe is extended, whether it is two weeks or three weeks, whatever it is,” coach Dwane Casey said Thursday. “We’re not putting a day on it. Extended is beyond day to day, I think.

“We’re not [spending] each day waiting on him. … He’s back when he’s back. That’s the same message we gave to the team. We’re not going to rush him back. We need him back. But we’re not going to rush him.”

Bargnani was averaging career highs in points, rebounds, field goal percentage and free throw attempts.
