Ujiri Wants Raptors To Re-Sign DeMar DeRozan, Bismack Biyombo

May 30, 2016 1:45 PM

Masai Ujiri wants the Toronto Raptors to bring back DeMar DeRozan and Bismack Biyombo next season.

“I don’t know how possible that is, but honestly, it’s our jobs," said Ujiri. "We have to figure it out. That’s why we’re brought here to do this. Some of the things are more difficult than others. But to me, the approach is, our guys have said that they want to be here. That’s the first step, to build your culture and build your team, and you try to learn how to win and build winning. That attracts players. That makes players want to stay here. That’s the first step. And then, it’s kind of put on my table, and our guys in the front office, to figure it out. We’ll try to figure it out.”

Ujiri said the Raptors have just taken “baby steps” towards becoming a contender.

“Our number one goal is to bring DeMar back here. We feel great that he wants to come back to our organization. I spoke to him yesterday and his eyes were still red; you could tell, he said he felt empty the next day. Which was telling. Speaking to him and Kyle, they almost felt like we had a game to play still, and that game is not there. There’s that hunger, and you like that, and then now, it’s my part to figure it out. ”

Ujiri was asked about offering DeRozan a max contract.

“I think that question is for later. We’ll have those discussions. Our organization, I think, has showed that we want to win. Those are, I think, negotiations that we’ll have with DeMar and his agent, and we’ll see where it goes.”

Dwane Casey, Raptors To Discuss Extension

May 28, 2016 5:42 PM

Dwane Casey and the Toronto Raptors will soon begin discussions on a contract extension.

Casey helped lead the Raptors to just two wins away from The Finals, winning the first and second round in hardy fought seven-game series.

Casey has one season left on his current contract at the Raptors' option for $4 million next season.

Casey was head coach of the Raptors before Masai Ujiri took the job of general manager, but they have formed a good relationship and the results have suggested general overachievement.

Bismack Biyombo Would Have Been Suspended For Game 7

May 27, 2016 11:05 PM

Bismack Biyombo would have been suspended for Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals after picking up his fourth Flagrant Foul points of the playoffs.

Biyombo hit the chin of Kevin Love while scoring a basket for the Raptors. After Love went down to the floor, referees reviewed the play and ruled it a flagrant foul penalty 1, which also took away the basket scored by Biyombo.

The NBA could rescind the flagrant foul call after reviewing it further, but the Cavaliers eliminated the Raptors with the win in Game 6.

Kyrie Irving Admits Toronto Crowd Made Him Discombulated

May 26, 2016 9:00 PM

Kyrie Irving acknowledged the noise in the Air Canada Centre during Games 3 and 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals was a factor in the way he played, leaving him discombobulated.

"It was really, really loud," Irving said late Wednesday. "I know I probably wasn't the only guy that felt that way."

LeBron James openly says the way the Cleveland Cavaliers play starts with Irving.

"It all starts with our floor general," James said after their Game 5 win in Cleveland with Irving sitting beside him.

"I had to take a step back," Irving said.
