Milicic To Miss 4-6 Weeks With Broken Knuckle

Dec 28, 2008 11:12 AM

The Grizzlies will reportedly be without center Darko Milicic for four to six weeks as he recovers from a broken knuckle on his right ring finger.

Milicic sustained the injury after scoring a season-high 14 points against the Pacers on Friday night.

"[Hakim [Warrick's] got to step up. Marc Gasol's got to step up. Darrell Arthur, another rookie, has got to step up," Coach Marc Iavaroni said. "We're back to starting three youngsters a lot. It'll be one of those things where we'll have to really galvanize. Everybody has to go through it."

Grizzlies' Mayo: We Learn From Our Opponents

Dec 27, 2008 6:18 PM

Rookie O.J. Mayo, who plays on one of the NBA's youngest teams in Memphis, recently admitted that the young guys learn more from their opponents than their teammates.

"It's a little hard because we're all extremely young. This is a rough league for a young team," Mayo said. "We might be learning more from the opponent instead of learning from each other. But at the same time it's good because we're growing together. I feel like if we can stay together for these next two or three years, we're going to be a special team in the league."

The Grizzlies have seven players that are 23 or younger.

Phil Jackson was asked on Monday whether or not he considered the Lakers' trade with the Grizzlies last season that netted Pau Gasol a donation, he responded with some controversial comments regarding Shaquille O'Neal.

"We understand it. Remember, we got rid of Shaq a few years ago, and they won a championship [in Miami]," Jackson said. "You have to give up talent to do things that straighten the organization out, to restructure the talent pool."
