The Memphis Grizzlies will waive Russ Smith and sign Ryan Hollins.

Hollins was recently waived by the Washington Wizards. Hollins gives the Grizzlies a backup for Marc Gasol at center. Hollins was previously with the Grizzlies during training camp.

Smith had a fully guaranteed contract for this season and a non-guaranteed year in 2016-17.

Matt Barnes has received a two-game suspension from the NBA for his off-court incident involving Derek Fisher.

Barnes confronted Fisher at the home of his estranged wife after receiving a phone call from one of his sons.

Fisher had been dating Gloria Govan for a few months.

Brandan Wright will miss six to eight weeks with arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.

Wright has been sidelined since injuring the knee against the Utah Jazz on Nov. 7. Wright had opted for rest and rehab but the knee didn't respond to it.

Wright signed a three-year, $17.1 million contract with the Memphis Grizzlies during the offseason.

“I want to be as close to 100 percent as possible [when I return],” Wright told Yahoo Sports.

Dave Joerger characterized reports that his job as head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies was in jeopardy as "silliness."

"In our society something is written (on social media) ... and all of a sudden it creates a life of its own from some source."

After fielding several questions on the matter, he closed with a laugh saying: "I think I was good. I could go some more. What's everybody getting all stressed for?"

The Grizzlies have surprisingly struggled to begin the season.
