Saunders Compares Wall To LeBron, Durant

Oct 29, 2010 12:27 AM

Expectations on John Wall are high and Flip Saunders is elevating those by comparing him to some of the NBA's best players.

"You can go down the list, Orlando with Dwight, Cleveland with LeBron, Durant in Oklahoma City, there is a process you go through,'' Saunders said Thursday before a morning workout. "(Wall) is the main part of that foundation for us.''

Arenas To Miss At Least Two Games

Oct 27, 2010 4:32 PM

Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas will miss at least the first two games of the regular season with a strained tendon in his right ankle.

Arenas was in a walking boot and missed his fourth straight practice Wednesday.

"He's definitely not going to play these two games," Washington coach Flip Saunders said.

"We'll evaluate and hopefully both of these days in the boot will let that, right now the tendon is inflamed, we got to get that thing to settle down. Once it settles down and some of that fluid gets out of it he's going to have a better chance at playing."

The Wizards will play the Magic on Thursday and the Hawks on Saturday.

Thornton To Become Restricted Free Agent

Oct 27, 2010 8:45 AM

Wizards forward Al Thornton will become a restricted free agent after the season.

Billy Duffy, Thornton's agent, said on Tuesday that his client would not sign an extension by next Monday's deadline.

"I think Al's about to go to a whole other level and I think the way he's perceived right now, I think there is going to be an ability to enhance his reputation around the league and within that organization," Duffy said.

"I don't think he's had enough time there to really demonstrate what his new value will be moving forward. I think he has a huge upside and will have a huge role on that team."

Arenas Misses Third Straight Practice

Oct 26, 2010 5:08 PM

Gilbert Arenas missed practice for the third straight day on Tuesday as he deals with a sore right ankle.

Washington coach Flip Saunders said he'll "have to see what happens in the next 48 hours" before the team determines if Arenas will play in Thursday's opener against San Antonio.

"We need him, there's no question," Saunders said.

"You take a guy that last year, before he went out, he was a 22-point scorer and 7? assists, so you'd like to put that in your lineup. What it does is it puts more pressure on your main guards, John and Kirk, those guys maybe have to play more minutes than maybe what you'd like them to until you get him back, whenever that is."

Arenas Was Fined $50K For Faking Injury

Oct 16, 2010 9:23 AM

The Wizards fined guard Gilbert Arenas $50,000 for faking a knee injury on Tuesday, according to numerous reports.

Arenas said his knee was sore Tuesday morning and did not play in that night's game against the Hawks.

He told reporters after the game that he faked the injury so Nick Young could get more playing time.

"I screwed up again, so I just want to say sorry," Arenas said.

"I wasn't really thinking that this was going to be another media outburst. It's like everything I do now, someone, tit for tat, tries to blow it out of proportion."

Jordan: I Could Score 100 Points In Today's NBA

Oct 15, 2010 8:07 AM

Michael Jordan told USA Today on Thursday that he could see himself scoring 100 points under the rules of today's NBA.

"It's less physical and the rules have changed, obviously," said Jordan. "Based on these rules, if I had to play with my style of play, I'm pretty sure I would have fouled out or I would have been at the free throw line pretty often and I could have scored 100 points."

Jordan was also asked about Kobe Bryant and where he stacks up among the NBA's all-time greats.

"It's so hard to say," Jordan said of Bryant.

"I think he is always going to be within the conversations of some of the greatest players who've played by the time he is finished. Where does he rank among those, if you are talking about positions? If you are talking about guards, I would say he has got to be in the top 10."

Arenas Leaves Game With Groin Strain

Oct 15, 2010 7:56 AM

Gilbert Arenas left Washington's preseason game against the Bucks on Thursday night with a strained right groin.

Arenas admitted on Tuesday night that he faked a knee injury supposedly to open up more time for teammate Nick Young in Washington's exhibition home opener.

On Thursday, Arenas last just three minutes before exiting with the groin injury.

Wizards coach Flip Saunders fined Arenas for the fake injury Tuesday. Before Thursday's game, he wasn't eager to revisit the incident.

"That's over with. I'm not going to get into it," Saunders said. "I've done enough."
