Arenas-For-Carter Talks Never Went Far

Nov 27, 2010 4:11 PM

The Magic and Wizards discussed a trade that involved both Gilbert Arenas and Vince Carter this past summer.

According to sources, the conversations involving a Carter-for-Arenas swap didn't go very far, even though a deal would match up financially.

Arenas knows rumors linking him to the Magic will continue because of his relationship with general manager Otis Smith, who worked with the Warriors when the guard was with Golden State.

"That's all because of the relationship that I have with Otis Smith. He was my mentor in Golden State, and we've had a close relationship since," said Arenas.

"Because of the connection we have, I think people just associate us. It's a personal relationship. He was like a father to me. When I decide to make deals, that's who I call, and he takes his bias out of it and tells me to think like a professional."

Al Thornton To Miss A Few Games With Left Ankle

Nov 26, 2010 8:40 AM

Wizards forward Al Thornton will miss some time with a sprained left ankle.

Thornton aggravated the injury in Washington's win over Philadelphia on Tuesday night.

He missed Thursday night's game against the Hawks, his hometown team.

Thornton said the ankle injury will likely keep him out for "a couple of games," especially since it is the same ankle that forced him to miss two games in the preseason.

"It's pretty bad," Thornton said. "I just turned it all the way over. I need to take a step back and really get healthy. I was just trying to get through it. I've been getting treatment on it. I didn't let it heal all the way."

Wall Records First Career Triple-Double

Nov 11, 2010 5:05 AM

John Wall recorded his first triple-double in Wednesday's 98-91 win for the Wizards over Houston.

Wall finished with 19 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds, as well as six steals and just one turnover.

"It's fun to watch," Coach Flip Saunders said of his star pupil. "The thing tonight he did is that he did it very much under control. One turnover is impressive, to have as many assists as he had to just one turnover, so it does show you one, his intelligence and how coachable he is."

Flip Saunders cancelled a Wizards' practice session on Monday because the coach was unhappy with the team's effort and its complaints about calls.

"Five minutes after the media was let onto the main court for practice, Flip Saunders walked off the court and canceled practice due to the lack of effort and the barking that was taking place over disputed calls," reports BulletsForever.com.  "A second practice was rescheduled for 4PM with no media availability."
