Wall Encouraged By Adding Beal To Progress Made After Nene Trade

Jun 29, 2012 3:13 AM

John Wall is encouraged with the recent acquisitions made by the Wizards in adding Nene and Bradley Beal to the roster.

“After we got Nene last year we were a different team," said Wall. "We finished the season strong and I think he (Bradley Beal) can come in and help us continue to get better. He’s a good shooter so he will help spread the floor us and he can defend on the end. We need to move forward so we can get better as a team and look towards the playoffs.”

Wizards Trade Lewis For Okafor, Ariza

Jun 20, 2012 3:13 PM

The Wizards and Hornets have agreed to a trade of Emeka Okafor and Trevor Ariza for Rashard Lewis and the 46th overall pick.

The Hornets can buyout Lewis' $23.8 million contract for $13.7 million before July 1st.

Okafor and Ariza are owed a combined $43 million through the 13-14 season.

"We are pleased to add two more solid pieces as we continue to build our roster with a balance of proven veterans and the core of young talent that we have developed," said Ernie Grunfeld in formally announcing the trade.  "Emeka's defensive presence and rebounding ability will combine with Trevor’s versatility to add new dimensions to our frontcourt, and both players fit in very well with the type of team-first culture that we have been working to establish."

Kidd-Gilchrist Believes Wizards Are Playoff Team With Him At Small Forward

Jun 15, 2012 10:21 AM

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist believes the Wizards will be a playoff-caliber team if they select him with the third pick in the draft.

“I mean, with John [Wall] and Nene? I think it’s a playoff team,” Kidd-Gilchrist said, matter-of-factly, when asked how he would fit in Washington.

Next season? “I mean, I guess. I think it’s a playoff team,” Kidd-Gilchrist said.

Kidd-Gilchrist is no stranger to winning, having won a state title in high school, a gold medal at the FIBA Under-17 world championships and a national championship at Kentucky.

“I want to win games,” Kidd-Gilchrist said. “That’s what I’m about.”

All three players are projected as top-five picks in the upcoming draft.

“I think that I’ll be the most ready to go out of the group,” Robinson said last week in Chicago. “I think that my game is stuff that you really can’t teach, like rebounding, playing hard, so. I think that will help me at the next level.”

Wizards Announce Retention Of Randy Wittman

Jun 4, 2012 5:59 PM

Randy Wittman will return as the head coach of the Wizards for the 2012-13 season.

“We are excited to bring Randy back as head coach and give him the opportunity to build on the positive momentum that the team showed under his leadership last season,” said Grunfeld. “We were very pleased with the development of our young players and the commitment to winning he instilled despite taking over the team under difficult circumstances.”

Wittman was originally named head coach of the Wizards on January 24, 2012, after Flip Saunders was relieved of his duties following the team’s 2-15 start. The Wizards finished 18-31 (.367) after Wittman took over the team and won eight of their final 10 games (including their last six in a row).

“I’m very appreciative of the opportunity that Mr. Leonsis and Ernie have given me and I’m thrilled to be returning to work with these players and this organization,” said Wittman. “I felt that we made significant progress throughout last season and we are all looking forward to having a full summer, training camp and season to continue to improve this team.”
