Webster Foresees Many Spot-Up Opportunities Playing With Wall, Nene

Aug 30, 2012 11:03 AM

Martell Webster studied the roster of the Washington Wizards and figured that he would have an opportunity to become a spot-up threat with John Wall working off the dribble and Nene receiving attention in the interior.

The Wizards have recently struggled with their perimeter shooting.

Webster's deal with Washington is for one season at $1.6 million.

“We really wanted to improve our perimeter play and Martell is a proven player and he has started a lot of games in this league,” Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld said in a telephone interview. “I think he’s a good complement to some of the players we currently have on the roster.”

“I wouldn’t call myself a three-point specialist,” Webster said during a conference call. “I’m more of an all-around player, as far as that’s concerned.”

Webster is also feeling healthy after experiencing multiple back surgeries.

Wizards Sign Martell Webster

Aug 29, 2012 12:14 PM

The Washington Wizards have signed Martell Webster.

"Martell brings a combination of versatility and shooting in addition to his experience," said Grunfeld.  “Adding him to the roster provides us with another solid veteran presence and gives us flexibility with our lineups at both the shooting guard and small forward positions."

Webster (6-7, 230) holds career averages of 8.4 points and 3.2 rebounds while shooting .374 from three-point range in 394 games (191 starts) over seven seasons with Portland and Minnesota.

Celtics, Spurs, Lakers, Warriors, Jazz Rated As Having Best Uniforms By Uni Watch

Aug 24, 2012 10:52 AM

Paul Lukas of Uni Watch ranks the uniforms of all 30 NBA teams, with the Celtics coming in first.

"The Rolling Stones, "Goodfellas," a Hershey's with almonds -- the classics are classic for a reason," writes Lukas about the Celtics. "That definitely applies to the Celtics' set. No goofy side panels, no extraneous bells or whistles -- just a perfect, vertically arched wordmark and a simple green-and-white color scheme. They rank atop this list despite sometimes wearing that black-trimmed alternate."

The Spurs, Lakers, Warriors and Jazz comprise the remainder of the top-five.

"The Raiders aren't the only team that knows how to wear silver and black," writes Lukas in regards to the Spurs. "In addition to the killer colors, the Spurs are also among the few NBA teams that have successfully incorporated a graphic image into their chest typography -- a small element that goes a long way."

Beal Wants To Earn Spot In Wizards Rotation

Aug 21, 2012 11:19 PM

Bradley Beal doesn’t want to be handed a starting position because he was a lottery pick and it’s expected of him.

“I want to just come in and try to earn everything. I don’t want anything given to me. I want to earn everything and show these guys that I’m a hard worker and I’m a winner,” Beal said. “You know we have a young team, but we have a few vets as well and I just want to come in and try to set the tone and try to get this team back on a winning pace.”

Beal averaged 17.6 points while shooting 41.7 percent from the floor last month during summer league.

“I can always get better. I just want to be more aggressive and contribute a little bit more than what I did,” he said. “I think overall I had a solid performance, but I’m still pretty happy.”

Wizards, Cavs, Pacers Interested In Anthony Tolliver

Aug 8, 2012 10:47 AM

Anthony Tolliver’s agent has had free agent discussions with the Wizards.

“You look at Washington’s roster, he’d probably be a decent fit there. They don’t have a guy at the forward position that can step out and shoot the ball and that’s a main part of Anthony’s game,” Tolliver’s agent, Larry Fox said.

The Cavaliers and Pacers have also expressed interest in Tolliver.

“They have kept up a level of constant communication,” Fox said of the Wizards, “but we certainly are talking to other teams at the same time. We’re not in the minimum game, I can assure you that. Honestly, until we get something that’s really worth while, both basketball-wise and money-wise for Anthony, there is no reason to rush at this point.”

Wall Wants To Be 'Savior' For Wizards

Aug 1, 2012 5:00 PM

John Wall is set to enter a critical third season in the NBA and is ready for more responsibility to lead the Wizards.

“You wanna do it all,” Wall told Dime. “You wanna be an All-Star. You wanna be one of the top five best point guards. You wanna make the playoffs, and get this city back to where they know they can be. When you have the playoffs, I heard how crazy it could be when everybody is wearing all white. That’s what I want to get to. I want to be the savior.”

The Wizards have yet to make the playoffs during Wall's tenure.

“We want to be a playoff team,” Wall said. “We know we can be a playoff team. We showed we can beat some of the best teams in the league, and we can compete with all of the teams in the Eastern Conference. It’s just that we have to do the right things. I think everybody knows what our team is expected to be next year and what guys we’re gonna have back. We just have to put in the work this summer and come back even better.”
