Wall Struggling Since All-Star Break

Feb 28, 2013 11:54 AM

John Wall has averaged 10.2 points on 29.6 percent shooting along with 4.6 turnovers over his last five games.

“He is going through a rough stretch,” Wizards coach Randy Wittman said. “Whether it’s a game, a stretch, two weeks, a week, 10 days, you’ve got to fight through it. You can’t succumb to it. You can’t feel sorry for yourself about it.”

Wall missed 6-of-9 shots and committed seven turnovers in the Wizards’ 96-95 loss to the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday.

Wall sat out much of the fourth quarter and blamed his miscues on teammates being unable to catch his passes.

“I don’t know,” Wall said, when asked about the reason for his seven turnovers. “I think you’re seeing the same thing I’m seeing, so I can’t really call it.”

Clippers, Wizards Had Butler For Ariza Trade Agreed Upon

Feb 25, 2013 12:46 PM

The Los Angeles Clippers and Washington Wizards had an agreement in principle on the eve of the deadline involving a trade of Caron Butler for Trevor Ariza, according to sources.

Donald Sterling rejected the trade a few hours before the deadline in fear of ruining the team's chemistry.

Butler continues to have a home in the Washington D.C. area, while Ariza would have given the Clippers a wing defender with length.

Wizards Have League's Best Defense With Wall In Lineup

Feb 9, 2013 10:25 PM

The Washington Wizards have allowed 95.1 points per 100 possessions since John Wall returned, a mark that would rank 1st overall.

“That’s one thing coach (Randy Wittman) prides us on is doing it on the defensive end because we can score in various ways and get out in the open court. They was doing a good job of making it tough on teams,” Wall said of his teammates before his return. “The main thing to be good in this league, especially a young team, you got to come out and play hard and that’s what we try to do every night and create offense off of our defense.”

The Wizards have held opponents to less than triple digits in 14 of Wall’s first 16 games, and only five opponents have shot better than 45 percent during that span.

“Our guys have bought into the system and has worked their tails off to do the things night in and night out that we need to do on the defensive end,” Wittman said. “Are you going to make mistakes? Yeah. But I like our mistakes now being made now because they’re aggressive. We’re overaggressive. We’re trying too hard. You take those as a coach.”
