John Wall In Shoe Endorsement Free Agency

Nov 21, 2015 6:50 PM

John Wall is a free agent when it comes to an endorsement contract with a shoe company.

Wall's deal with Adidas expired on Sept. 30th.

“My main focus is just play basketball. I let my agents and marketing team and them negotiate and talk,” Wall said after shoot-around at the Palace of Auburn Hills before Saturday night’s game against the Detroit Pistons. “I’m just trying to focus on the season and not worry about what’s going on off the court and play basketball.”

Wall signed a five-year, $25 million deal with Reebok before the 2010 NBA Draft, but it was terminated in the third-year when he was suffering from injuries. Wall then joined Adidas, which owns Reebok for the remainder of the contract.

Wall receives royalties from the sneakers’ sales and will wear his signature sneaker in games but has been wearing other brands, including Nike, at practice.

Kevin Durant: I'll Worry About Free Agency When I Get There

Nov 10, 2015 12:14 PM

Kevin Durant responded to questions about his free agent on Tuesday ahead of playing the Washington Wizards.

Durant will be a free agent in the offseason for the first time of his career.

"I don't think about the future too hard," said Durant. "I'll worry about that stuff when I get there. I've been saying I don't know for a long, long time but I'm really just focused on our team, happy I'm playing again and that kind of takes over."

Kevin Durant: Free Agency Shouldn't Be That Big

Nov 9, 2015 12:16 PM

Kevin Durant's free agent in 2016 will be one of the NBA's most widely talked about stories, but he hasn't had too difficult of a time yet answering questions from the media.

Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder will play at the Washington Wizards on Tuesday. Durant grew up in the Washington area and has been strongly linked to the Wizards as a potential free agent destination.

"First of all, it's always an elephant in the room when you're talking about that stuff. I don't want to, like, totally just dodge it. I know it's coming. I know the situation," Durant said. "But I'm really focusing on how I can be better every game. And how I can get back – I don't want say get back, because I'm back – but get used to playing again. All that other stuff is going to come, but we'll wait until we get to that bridge when we cross it."

Durant has tried to deflect attention that could separate him from his team.

"It really hasn't been like that. I was in Houston, and it was not bad. It's not like ESPN is following us every trip. Nobody has really asked me about it, to be honest," Durant said.

"I'm really not good with attention," he said. "I really don't like all this stuff to be centered around me. It comes with it, it's a part of it, but I'm still getting used to it. I learned to embrace it a little bit more, but it's still a little awkward for me."

Durant has been with the Thunder for seven-plus seasons and this will be his first time experiencing free agency.

"Free agency is like a season and it shouldn't be that big," Durant said. "Me, I feel like you should focus on who you have. It's easy to get your hopes up and expect a guy to come to your team or whatever – I'm not talking about myself, I'm just talking about free agency in past years and the future. You get your hopes up as a fan, and then they let you down and then you end up not liking the player. So, it's a little too much emphasis on that type of stuff. But it's part of the game.

"I always been a guy who loves praise from my teammates and coaches. I want to please them more than anything. But I never been one of those guys that looks for it from everybody else. I don't care if guys in the stands respect me. I'm more for respect from the guys on the court. Praise from people lobbying me to play for their team or whatever. I can't please them. I'm sure they're the same ones who will cuss me out when we go into an arena as the opposing team. So, I try not to focus on that, worry about that. I'd rather have respect from my peers. From my teammates and my coaches."

Exec: Delayed Extensions For Cap Space 'Against The Rules'

Nov 3, 2015 4:31 PM

Following on the precedent set last season by Kawhi Leonard and the San Antonio Spurs, both the Detroit Pistons and Andre Drummond and the Washington Wizards with Bradley Beal have delayed extensions to presumably preserve cap space.

"It's against the rules," said an unnamed executive who described it as a cap circumvention.

Both the player and team assume some risk in delaying an extension. The player can suffer a catastrophic injury and lose his market value, while the team can be stuck with the player signing an offer sheet with another team.

The motive for delaying an extension is that the player's cap hold is significantly lower than the first year of their new deal would be.

Wizards Won't Sign Bradley Beal To Extension

Nov 2, 2015 11:14 AM

Bradley Beal and the Washington Wizards will not agree upon a contract extension.

The Wizards are maximizing their cap space in order to pursue a maximum level free agent in 2016.

Washington still hopes to sign Beal to a long-term deal but will have more cap space if they operate with his lower cap hold than what the first season of his new contract will be worth.
