Jared Dudley Would Like To Re-Sign With Wizards But Wants Three-Year Deal

Apr 22, 2016 1:53 PM

Jared Dudley would like to re-sign with the Washington Wizards this offseason but he's seeking a three-year deal.

Dudley exercised his $4.25 million player option last offseason knowing back surgery was likely. Dudley figures to get a raise with the cap increasing.

“I thought I held my end of the bargain when it came to Ernie [Grunfeld] trading for me even though I was hurt at the time,” Dudley said after the Wizards’ season finale. “Going forward, I could definitely see me coming back. As I told some other reporters, I’m never anybody’s first or second or third option, I’m your fourth option. So if you don’t get your girlfriend you want right away, I’m the one at the end. For me, it’s no problem. You know what I can do in this system. When I play, I play the right way.”

Dudley played both forward positions for the Wizards.

“For me, the two things I wanted to basically show this year, for one, I wanted to show that I was healthy and show I could play the four,” Dudley said. “I thought I did that for 80 percent of the season.”

Kevin Durant Not Keen On Playing In Washington

Apr 21, 2016 11:58 PM

The Washington Wizards hired the ex-coach of Kevin Durant in Scott Brooks but it is not expected to make a difference in his free agency decision.

Friends say Durant isn't keen on returning to his hometown. Durant's inner circle has tightened considerably in recent years and he isn't interested in dealing with distant friends and family members.

Durant's lone visit to Washington this season was stressful, according to sources.

Durant respects Brooks and even missed him at various points in the season. Despite Brooks' limitations as a head coach, Durant knew he held everyone accountable and had a track record of player development.

Scott Brooks and the Washington Wizards have agreed upon a five-year $35 million deal.

Brooks replaces Randy Wittman as head coach. Brooks was also a strong candidate for the Houston Rockets.

The Oklahoma City Thunder fired Brooks last offseason.

The Wizards have been planning on pursuing Kevin Durant in the 2016 offseason for several seasons and the presence of Brooks can only help their chances even if they're still considered a longshot.

Wizards Make Scott Brooks Top Priority

Apr 15, 2016 5:52 PM

The Washington Wizards have made Scott Brooks their top priority as they look for a replacement for Randy Wittman.

Brooks was fired after last season by the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Brooks is also a candidate for the Wolves' job.

The Wizards have been preparing for the 2016 offseason for several years to pursue Kevin Durant, who previously played for Brooks. The Wizards' disappointing season is widely believed to have taken them off Durant's list despite being his hometown team.

Kevin Durant Endorses Scott Brooks To Get Another Chance In NBA

Apr 14, 2016 7:53 PM

Kevin Durant endorsed Scott Brooks to get another chance as an NBA head coach.

Brooks was fired last season by the Oklahoma City Thunder and he's now a candidate for the Washington Wizards, Minnesota Timberwolves and Sacramento Kings.

“I can’t keep saying it enough, Scotty did a great job with us,” Durant said. “It’s nothing against him, but it’s different. Different plays, different schemes, different terms and what we want to do on both ends of the floor.”

Durant talked about how Brooks coached last season with a limited roster due to injuries.

“In Coach Brooks’ defense, he didn’t have me, Russ, Enes, Serge, Dion and A-Mo all on the court at the same time,” Durant said. “Obviously when you have more scorers out there, your numbers are gonna be up.

"That just shows we've got multiple guys out there that can put numbers on the board and we've been doing it at a high level this year.”

Randy Wittman Expected To Be Fired By Wizards

Apr 14, 2016 10:53 AM

The Washington Wizards are expected to fire Randy Wittman this offseason.

"I mean, look, Randy's probably 99 percent certain he's going to be fired on Thursday morning," Brian Windhorst said. "There were people who legitimately made the case that the Wizards would have finished with the No. 2 record in the East this year and that they had all of the weapons required to go to the Eastern finals and make a run. Granted, they had so many injuries -- for a while, I think three-quarters of the way through the season they had the most games missed -- but their complete collapse defensively and their inability to execute despite really having a lot of weapons at their disposal was just embarrassing. A lost season, not only because of the [Kevin] Durant thing."

The Wizards reached the second round last year and missed the playoffs altogether this year.

Ernie Grunfeld Under Contract With Wizards For Next Season

Apr 5, 2016 12:46 PM

Ernie Grunfeld is under contract with the Washington Wizards for the 16-17 season, which is a strong suggestion he'll remain as president.

It is unknown when Grunfeld and Ted Leonsis agreed to the extension.

Grunfeld is the fifth longest tenure chief executive in the NBA.

The Wizards have posted a 440-605 record during Grunfeld’s tenure and advanced to the postseason in six of his campaigns.

Washington took a step backwards this season and will not make the playoffs.
