March Madness Saint Peter's vs North Carolina & Kansas vs Miami Elite Eight Picks

Mar 31, 2022 4:40 PM

It’s time to fill out the Final Four in New Orleans, with two remaining Elite Eight matchups for Sunday’s college basketball betting action in what has already been a wild month of madness.

No. 1 Kansas is the last remaining top seed, with the Jayhawks favored by -5.5 over No. 10 Miami. The last regional final has No. 15 Saint Peters looking to continue its dream run – the Peacocks will be a +8.5 underdog against No. 8 North Carolina.

Sunday's College Basketball Betting Lines To Back

Miami +5.5 over Kansas

Can the Hurricanes do it again? Having already knocked off No. 1-seeded Auburn, Miami now takes on the last top seed left in the tournament. Kansas handled its business against Providence in solid but unspectacular fashion as the Jayhawks look to make it back to the Final Four for the first time since 2018. We expect Kansas to get it done in a close matchup.

The Hurricanes are excellent on the offensive end with enough size to match up. They’ve also covered every tournament game and are now 10-3 against the spread over the last 13 games. Kansas had a significant early lead against Providence and couldn’t put the Friars away until the end. We’ll take the points here. We’re on Miami +5.5.

North Carolina -8.5 over Saint Peter's

The Peacocks have already secured the greatest March run of all time for a No. 15 seed. Sadly, this looks like the end of the road for Saint Peter's. The Tar Heels are playing as well as anyone left in the Big Dance and can turn on the offense in a hurry, as we saw with a ridiculous onslaught at the end of the UCLA game and in overtime against Baylor.

We love this Saint Peter's team but after three emotionally-charged upset wins, hanging with the Tar Heels for 40 minutes after a back-and-forth battle with Purdue seems like too much to ask. We’re on North Carolina -8.5.

March Madness Sweet 16 Odds & Picks For Friday, March 25

Mar 31, 2022 4:38 PM

Gonzaga and Arizona are heading home and suddenly Kansas is the last No. 1 seed left standing for college basketball betting action ahead of tonight’s Midwest and East region Sweet 16 Matchups.

The No. 1 Jayhawks take on No. 4 Providence tonight, with the Jayhawks -7 favorites. We’ve also got our eyes on No. 4 UCLA as a -2 favorite over No. 8 North Carolina and No. 10 Miami as a -3 favorite over No. 11 Iowa State.

Friday’s College Basketball Betting Lines To Back

Kansas -7 over Providence

We were leaning Providence +7.5 early in the week, but Kansas is available without the hook now and we think it’s a good number for the Jayhawks. The Friars caught a massive break with Richmond taking out Iowa.

To their credit, they took advantage with a 79-51 win. But they caught a few lucky bounces in that game too. Richmond shot just 1 of 22 from 3-point range while Providence went scorched earth and hit 12 of 22 from downtown. That won’t happen against Kansas’ defense. Providence is a strong defensive team that excels on the perimeter, but Kansas isn’t reliant on the 3-point shot.

This is a balanced offensive team that can get to the rack, hitting 19 of 20 free throws in a second-round win over Creighton. Providence could struggle to keep up. We’re on Kansas -7 over Providence.

North Carolina +2.5 over UCLA

While we flipped our first pick from earlier in the week, we’ve been locked in on this one. North Carolina was incredibly impressive in wins over Marquette and No. 1 Baylor. No one seems to know how to handle the Tar Heels’ offense when it’s going like this, scoring 93 points or more in three of the last five games.

They needed overtime to do it against Baylor after blowing a 25-point lead, but we actually think the composure to regroup and drop the hammer in OT is a positive sign moving forward. UCLA will try to slow it down and make it ugly. That’s a tall order tonight. We’re on North Carolina +2.5.

Miami -3 over Iowa State

We can’t trust the Cyclones in this spot. The defense has been very impressive, no doubt. The point totals are alarming. Iowa State has been held under 60 points in four of the last five games, a stretch that includes a 53-36 loss to Oklahoma State and a 72-41 loss to Texas Tech. Credit Iowa State for making it work with tough wins over LSU and Wisconsin, but the 3-point numbers suggest they got away with a couple.

LSU shot just 4 of 19 from deep while the Cyclones were 12 of 37 – yes, they hit 12 threes and still scored just 59 points. The Badgers were even colder than LSU and hit just 2 of 22 from deep. The Hurricanes don’t overly-rely on the three, they have size and they can rip off quick scoring runs at any time. Iowa State is in deep trouble if it falls behind by a few possessions at any point. We’re on Miami -3.

March Madness Sunday Second-Round Odds & Best Bets

Mar 31, 2022 4:35 PM

We’re on to the fourth straight day of March Madness college basketball betting, with several electric second-round matchups and a spot in the Sweet 16 on the line.

Sunday’s best second-round matchups include No. 3 Wisconsin as a -4.5 favorite over No. 11 Iowa State at DraftKings Sportsbook. We’ve also got our eyes on No. 3 Texas Tech as a -8 favorite over No. 11 Notre Dame, as well as No. 2 Auburn as a -7 favorite over No. 10 Miami.

While we don’t have an official pick, Sunday also gives us a historic final meeting between Michigan State coach Tom Izzo and Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski, with No. 2 Duke posted as a -6.5 favorite over the No. 7 Spartans.

Sunday College Basketball Betting Lines To Back

Iowa State +4.5 over Wisconsin

The Cyclones are exactly the type of team that should be able to hang tough with Wisconsin. Iowa State is one of few teams in the country that defends better and with more effort than the Badgers, and there’s just enough to work with on offense. Wisconsin survived in a sloppy showing against Colgate, but this one should have the Badgers’ full attention. Iowa State is coming of an upset win over a very tough LSU squad and will be more than happy to grind it out with the Badgers. We’re on Iowa State +4.5

Notre Dame +8 over Texas Tech

Those First Four teams can be dangerous this time of year. We saw it last season with UCLA carrying the momentum from an overtime win over Michigan State in Dayton, eventually making the Final Four. Notre Dame has looked good enough early in the tournament to think a similar run is possible. The Irish took care of business against Alabama in the first round and will need to be on-point offensively to pull off the upset today. Texas Tech is the best defensive team in the nation, but the Raiders struggle to run away from teams in the second half. We expect the Irish to keep it close for the duration. We’re on Notre Dame +8.

Miami +7 over Auburn

We figured there would be a good opportunity to fade Auburn at some point this month. It looks like the time has come. The Tigers cruised to a first-round win over Jacksonville State, but the No. 2-seeded Tigers haven’t been playing like a top contender since early February. Miami is the slightly better offensive team and competes at a very high level. The Hurricanes have only lost one game by more than four points dating back to Dec. 1, and they’re getting an overrated Auburn team in a great spot. We love the points in this matchup. We’re on Miami +7.

March Madness First-Round Odds & Picks for Friday March 17

Mar 31, 2022 4:33 PM

Talk about an unforgettable day of college basketball betting. Thursday’s opening round of March Madness provided some insane highlights, including Saint Peter's upset win over Kentucky, Iowa falling to Richmond and more than a handful of point spreads going down to the wire.

Let’s see what Friday has in store for an encore. We’re looking at several games today, including No. 7 USC as a -2 favorite over No. 10 Miami at DraftKings Sportsbook. We’re also looking at No. 6 Texas as a -1 favorite over Virginia Tech and No. 4 Illinois as a -8 favorite over Chattanooga.

Friday’s College Basketball Betting Lines To Back

Miami +2 over USC

The Trojans are limping into the NCAA Tournament having lost three of the last four, albeit against great competition. USC took a pair of losses to UCLA and got blown out by Arizona in the final weeks of the season, and it isn’t always easy to snap back into the right mindset this time of year. Miami has some impressive wins on the schedule – including an upset at Duke – and nearly took the Blue Devils out again during a four-point loss in the ACC Tournament. We love the way the Hurricanes are playing and think they can do enough to advance. We’re on Miami +2.

Texas -1 over Virginia Tech

It seems Virginia Tech is one of the trendiest picks on the bracket after the Hokies’ ACC Tournament title run, but we don’t think they’ll make it out of the first round. Texas is one of the best defensive teams in the country, with plenty of scorers as well. The Longhorns also played one of the toughest schedules out there and scored quality wins over the likes of Tennessee, Kansas and Iowa State. That defense just gives opponents a lot of problems. We’re on Texas -1.

Illinois -8 over Chattanooga

Everyone loves Chattanooga after their buzzer-beater win in the Southern Conference Tournament championship. That dramatic shot and finish might have even brought the line down a point or two, and we think it’s too low currently. Chattanooga has a strong backcourt but the defensive effort in the paint is cause for serious concern. The Mocs rank 272nd defensively against two-point shots and they’ll get a massive dose of Illinois’ Kofi Cockburn tonight. Chattanooga doesn’t see many players like Illinois’ 7-foot Wooden Award candidate center and the Illini are more than battle-tested after playing one of the toughest schedules in the country. We’re on Illinois -8.
