Andrew Wiggins Commits To Kansas

Andrew Wiggins has committed to Kansas

Wiggins also considered Florida State, Kentucky and North Carolina.

“I just followed my heart,” Wiggins said to Grant Taylor of the Herald-Dispatch. “Kansas had my heart so that’s where I wanted to go.”

Wiggins, a native of Toronto, is widely thought to be the best high school prospect since LeBron James.

Florida State and Kentucky were considered the favorites to land Wiggins, but his father said that it came down to the Jayhawks and Seminoles.

Wiggins didn't reach a final decision on Kansas until the weekend.

“Obviously, everyone in Jayhawk-land is overwhelmed and excited today,” Bill Self said. “This was a pleasant surprise because we never had an idea which way he was leading. Andrew did this the exact way he said he was going to. He played his cards very close to his vest, as did his mother and father.”

Andrew Wiggins To Make College Decision On Tuesday

Andrew Wiggins will sign his letter of intent on Tuesday at approximately 12:15 PM EST.

Wiggins will choose between Florida State, Kentucky, Kansas and North Carolina.

Unlike many prominent high school players, Wiggins will not make a televised announcement.

"He does not want to have a press conference signing," Huntington Prep coach Rob Fulford said in a text message. "He wants it private to just his classmates, family and friends."

Wiggins has often been called the best prospect since LeBron James.

Both of Wiggins' parents attended Florida State and the Seminoles are considered the favorite. Kentucky is also in the running due to Wiggins' relationship with John Calipari.

"I have no clue where he's going or leaning, so I'm not much help here," Fulford said.

Andrew Wiggins has canceled hime visits he had scheduled this week with Kansas, North Carolina and Florida State.

Wiggins is also considering committing to Kentucky.

Wiggins had 17 points, nine rebounds and four assists in Saturday's Nike Hoop Summit in Portland. Wiggins remains in Portland due to travel problems and still plans on speaking with coaches from those schools on the phone.

Andrew Wiggins' Brother Believes Kentucky May Not Be Best Fit

Andrew Wiggins’ older brother, Nick, thinks Kentucky may not be the best fit for him.

“It’s all about combinations of players you put on the floor and how players feel about playing with each other, playing a team game," Nick Wiggins said.  “And I feel like they got a couple kids coming (back), they got seven or eight dudes that are already signed to come in off the (McDonald’s) All-America team, and I don’t feel like it would be the best fit for him to make his own legacy. But in the end, he’s going to make the best decision for him.”

Nick believes his parents want Andrew to pick Florida State.

“I think both my parents would like him to go to Florida State University because that’s where my mom and my dad attended school so it would be pretty amazing to see him do that and I believe they would be happy with that decision,” Nick, a junior guard at Wichita State, told SNY.tv.

Wiggins Still Weighing College Options

Andrew Wiggins is still contemplating his college choice.

"I really don't know when I'm going to sign," said Wiggins. "When I know where I want to go, I'll sign. But I just don't know."

Huntington Prep coach Rob Fulford made up an Excel chart for Wiggins, so he could rank his final four schools -- Florida State, Kansas, Kentucky and North Carolina – in areas of interest such as atmosphere, fans, weather, coaching style, play style, campus, general feel and more.

"With the sheet, we want to help him to figure out exactly what is most important to him, what might not be most important and rank them among those schools," Fulford said. "At the end, you add it up and see who is leading. That doesn't necessarily determine the final decision, but that gives you a solid basis to build off of."

Wiggins' Official Visit To Kentucky Begins Wednesday

Andrew Wiggins will arrive in Lexington for his official visit at Kentucky on Wednesday.

Wiggins will visit Kansas and North Carolina next week.

Wiggins has narrowed his choices down to Kentucky, Kansas, North Carolina and Florida State. Wiggins visited Florida State in December.

Wiggins attended Big Blue Madness last season, as well as that season's North Carolina game.

"He's excited, and he doesn't care who they're playing," Huntington Prep Coach Rob Fulford told the Herald-Leader. "I know it's probably not the greatest game in the world for Kentucky. But he was at the Carolina game last year, so he's seen the atmosphere when it's at its highest."

Wiggins will be accompanied by his parents, who are coming down from Canada for the visit.

Wiggins Set To Visit Florida State, Will Likely Travel To Kentucky, Kansas, North Carolina

Andrew Wiggins will visit Florida State from Dec. 4-5, Huntington Prep coach Rob Fulford confirmed.

“He’s going to Florida State, I think Tuesday morning,” Fulford said after Wiggins scored 29 points, grabbed 17 rebounds, blocked five shots and recorded five assists in a 76-59 win over Memphis East on Friday. “He’s going down for the Florida game [Wednesday].”

Both of Wiggins' parents -- former NBA player Mitchell Wiggins and former Canadian Olympic track star Marita Payne-Wiggins -- attended Florida State.

“I like to see everything that happened there with my parents,” Wiggins said of FSU. “It would be a joy to go there, I mean great weather. Great people, great education. Great coaching staff. they make players better. They don’t always get the best players in the nation, or top five or top ten, but they develop four-year players to get ready for the NBA.”

Fulford said Wiggins would also like to visit Kentucky, Kansas and North Carolina.

“He’s said he wants to go to Florida State, Kentucky, Kansas and North Carolina,” he said. “Those are the ones he said he wants to visit. Timeframe, we don’t know. I mean obviously we just don’t have a ton of weekends available for visits. I know he’s going to take this one because his parents can come, but yeah, he said he wants to take at least those four.”

Wiggins To Visit Florida State First; UNC, Kentucky, Kansas To Follow When Schedule Allows

Andrew Wiggins' decision to reclassify from 2014 to 2013 will mean he has less time to make his college choice.

“From any indication Andrew has given us, he’s going to take one (official visit) to Florida State, North Carolina, Kentucky and Kansas,” Huntington head coach Rob Fulford said. “Those are the four right now that he’s kind of made a point to say that’s where he wants to visit. Whether that happens or not, and when, who knows?”

Huntington frequently plays out of state in their schedule.

“He wants to start trying to get visits plugged in when he can, but our schedule is brutal,” Fulford says. “We just don’t have many weekends open. I think he’s going to try and do one to Florida State in early December and he’s going to plug in others.”
