Alex Len Undergoes Ankle Surgery, Will Miss Pre-Draft Workouts

Alex Len underwent surgery to stabilize a partial stress fracture in his left ankle, his agency Sports International Group announced on Friday.

Len will be sidelined four to six months, and will miss all pre-draft workouts leading up to the June draft.

“The tough part about Alex’s injury is the timing,” Len’s agent, Michael Lelchitski said in a release. “Everyone who knows Alex knows that he would have been incredible in the pre-draft workout setting. However, Alex is one of the elite prospects with arguably the biggest upside of anyone in the draft. The most important thing is his long-term health.”

Len was projected by many to be a lottery pick in the upcoming draft.

NBA Scouts Worried Alex Len Will Follow Similar Trajectory As Nikoloz Tskitishvili

Several NBA scouts expressed concern that Alen Len may follow a similar trajectory as Nikoloz Tskitishvili, a 7-footer who was the fifth overall pick of the 2002 draft and averaged less than 3 points and 2 rebounds in a 172-game career.

Len has elite-level athleticism, but played erratically during his sophomore season at Maryland.

Len is projected to be taken among the top eleven picks in the June draft.

Melo Trimble Commits To Maryland

Melo Trimble, a top-60 rated class of 2014 prospect, committed to Maryland on Thursday.

Trimble stars at Bishop O’Connell High School in Arlington, Va.

“I’ve been watching Maryland most of my life,” said Trimble. “Of course [I remember] when they won [the national] championship with Juan Dixon and Steve Blake. … I always watched them as a kid. I heard about Len Bias and the other players. … When I went to games [at Comcast Center], it gave me chills and I wasn’t even playing. I could just imagine myself playing in the arena. … [I was just] waiting for that offer.”

The 6-foot-2 Trimble recently shifted to point guard and is averaging 18 points, eight rebounds and seven assists this season.

“They told me I’m going to play the 1 and 2,” Trimble said. “One of my good friends, Roddy Peters, is going there. We’re very interchangeable. And so is Seth Allen. They think all three of us can play together.”

Maryland Signee Roddy Peters To Undergo Season-Ending Shoulder Surgery

Roddy Peters will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery on Dec. 21.

Peters, who originally dislocated his shoulder over the summer playing on the AAU circuit, will play five more games for the Suitland High (MD) Rams before undergoing the correcive procedure.

“Just thinking about all my family who never got to see me play, and also my friends,” Peters wrote of his decision to play through the injury. “I (never) want to stop playing basketball so I want to play until I can’t anymore.”

Peters is expected to be sidelined until June.

Zeller, Noel, Muhammad, Len, McAdoo In Ford's Top-5 For 2013 Draft

The 2012-13 college basketball season is underway, which means attention to the 2013 NBA Draft is already being paid.

ESPN's Chad Ford has Cody Zeller, Nerlens Noel, Shabazz Muhammad, Alex Len and James Michael McAdoo in his top-5 in no particular order.

Jonathan Givony of Draft Express has Muhammad, Noel, Zeller, Rudy Gobert of Cholet and McAdoo in his current mock draft. Len is currently slotted 14th.

"Only player that I've made some major revisions on is Alex Len of Maryland," said Ford. "Just think he took a major leap over the summer and at 7-1 with his skill set, he's going to be a Top 5 pick. Reminds me a little bit of a young Ilgauskas."

Dez Wells Declared Eligible Immediately For Maryland

Dez Wells has been ruled eligible for the 12-13 season with Maryland.

Wells transfered from Xavier after getting expelled following sexual assault allegations that were dismissed.

Wells was the Atlantic 10 rookie of the year, averaging 9.8 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.

“We’re excited for Dez because at the end of the day, the NCAA made the right decision,” Coach Mark Turgeon said in a statement. “Our staff did an incredible job in putting this NCAA waiver appeal together on Dez’s behalf. Dez has been a welcomed addition, a great teammate, and has made a seamless transition in getting acclimated to our campus. This has been a long process for him and his family, and we’re grateful he can put it behind him and focus on being a student-athlete at the University of Maryland.”
