Xavier Thames Headlines Mountain West Awards

Xavier Thames of San Diego State has been named Mountain West Player of the Year.

Thames was joined on the All-Conference First Team by Cameron Bairstow, Deonte Burton, Larry Nance Jr. and Kendall Williams.

On the Second Team are Daniel Bejarano, Khem Birch, Anthony Drmic, Tyler Johnson and Ryan Watkins.

Birch was also named Defensive Player of the Year.

Freshman of the Year honors went to Paul Watson of Fresno State.

Paul George Treating Fans To Fresno State's Home Opener

Paul George has bought every single ticket of Fresno State's season opener on Nov. 16 to allow fans to attend the game on him.

George purchased the tickets for Save Mart Center's full 15,596 seat capacity.

George spent approximately a quarter of a miller dollars on the tickets.

George attended Fresno State.

Fresno State Dismisses Robert Upshaw From Program

Robert Upshaw has been dismissed by Fresno State after a third violation of Athletic Department policy.

Upshaw, a 7-foot center, was Rodney Terry's top recruit during his tenure at Fresno State.

Upshaw was suspended for three games in February, sitting out against UNLV, at San Diego State and against New Mexico. Upshaw was then supsended a second time at the end of the regular season.

When he signed with Fresno State over USC, Washington and Cal, Upshaw was a four-star prospect and considered one of the Top 50 prospects in the nation.

Upshaw will look to continue his career with another college.
