Patric Young Working To Improve Free Throw Shooting

Patric Young is working to solve his free throw woes.

Young shot just 4-of-8 from the line last weekend against LSU.

“It’s huge because I’m leaving points on the board whenever you miss free throws,” Young said. “You go 4 for 8, that’s four points that help you with your draft stock or your average on the year. I mean, it doesn’t really matter but when it comes down to the line in a game-winning situation, you need to be able to step up with confidence.”

Young took about 500 free throws earlier this week in the practice, and it showed on Thursday against Texas A&M.

Young went 4 for 5 from the line against the Aggies to improve to 52.5 percent for the season.

Duke, UCLA, Arizona, Florida Now Pursuing JaQuan Lyle

Duke, UCLA, Arizona and Florida have recently inquired about JaQuan Lyle, a 6-foot-4 point guard who is considered one of the top juniors nationally.

"(Those four) have all kind of reached out here in the last couple weeks with the great start that he's had," Lyle’s head coach, Shane Burkhart said. "That's added on to the 10 schools he had already come down to."

Lyle had previously cut his list to Indiana, Cincinnati, Georgetown, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Ohio State, Tennessee, Texas and Xavier.

Lyle has recorded a triple-double in seven of his first nine games this season.

"This past week, we had a tough game against Thurgood Marshall (High School) out of Ohio, but he still had 14 points, eight rebounds and eight assists," Burkhart said. "Those are fantastic numbers, and he gets chastised because he doesn't have more. He pushes himself very hard to be an elite basketball player. He has to continue to grow maturation-wise, and has to understand how hard he has to work every day in order to be as good as he wants, but the start of the season that he's had has been matched by no other that I've been around."

Billy Donovan Declines To Rule Out Coaching In NBA

Billy Donovan did not rule out an eventual move to the NBA.

“The one thing that I think is always intriguing the older I get is the fact that (the NBA) is just all about basketball,” Donovan said. “I love the practices, I love the games, I love doing individual instruction and breaking down tape and game planning and doing those things.

“Sometimes, I think, as you get older there is a lot of other things that you have to do here in college. For me, right now, I love Florida. I think the one thing that I’ve been fortunate of here is I’ve had the same athletic director, Jeremy Foley, since I first came here. He hired me and he’s still here. He’s wonderful and we have a great relationship.”

In 2007, Donovan accepted a five-year $27.5 million deal to coach the Orlando Magic, but had second thoughts and returned to Florida.

“He mentioned that he wanted to do it that day,” Sonny Parker, Jabari’s father, confirmed to SNY.tv by phone after the news was first reported by Joe Henrickson of City/Suburban Hoop Report. “They play Monday, Wednesday and Friday so Thursday is a good day for him to make his announcement.”

Sonny also said he believes his son has made the decision but hasn't told anyone.

Duke and Michigan State are widely considered the favorites to sign Parker.

Jabari Parker Received Recruiting Advice From Derrick Rose

Jabari Parker received recruiting advice from Derrick Rose.

Rose advised Parker, Illinois’ reigning Mr. Basketball, to consider comfort level when choosing a college.

“Usually when I talk to him it's brief,” Parker said of his conversations with Rose. “He gives me a little advice as far as college, choosing who's going to be there for you…someone who’s going to help you not only for basketball, but help you in school and give you dreams to strive for.”

When asked to identify factors that will influence his decision, Parker said: "Relationship with the coach, relationship with the team and the style of play. Also, how will [the team] be the following year as far as [whether] the coach is going to stay or not."

Parker is considering Michigan State, Stanford, BYU, Duke and Florida.

Julius Randle Out Three Months With Fractured Foot

Julius Randle will miss three months with a fractured right foot.

Randle is a consensus top-five player in the class of 2013.

“It’s a minor setback, but Julius is a fighter,” his mother Carolyn Kyles said. “We’ve already begun to set up rehabilitation for him and he’s a naturally a little down now, but he’ll be back before you know it. We’re just staying positive about everything. We know he’ll come back stronger than ever.”

Randle will decide between Kentucky, N.C. State, Florida, Texas, Kansas and Oklahoma and could “potentially” return toward the end of the season.

Karl Towns Jr. To Announce College Decision Dec. 4

Karl Towns Jr., the nation's top-ranked player for the recruiting class of 2015, will announce his college choice on Dec. 4.

“I know my family was feeling a lot of pressure, and I want to be able to have fun playing basketball in high school (this season) and not have to worry about anything off the basketball court,” Towns said. “I never like leading people on. I just want to get it over with.”

Towns is expected to choose between Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina and Florida.

“It’s a very strenuous process—it’s relentless,” Towns said. “It’s also fun, but it doesn’t leave your mind. It hits you every day over the head.”
