Jabari Parker will announce his college decision on Dec. 20 at Chicago Simeon High School.
Parker will choose either Duke, Michigan State, Florida, BYU or Stanford.
“He mentioned that he wanted to do it that day,” Sonny Parker, Jabari’s father, confirmed to SNY.tv by phone after the news was first reported by Joe Henrickson of City/Suburban Hoop Report. “They play Monday, Wednesday and Friday so Thursday is a good day for him to make his announcement.”
Sonny said his son had visited every school officially except Stanford “but he visited them twice unofficially.”
Sonny also said he believes his son has made the decision but hasn't told anyone.
Duke and Michigan State are widely considered the favorites to sign Parker.
Parker is the No. 2 prospect in the class behind Andrew Wiggins.
Jabari Parker received recruiting advice from Derrick Rose.
Rose advised Parker, Illinois’ reigning Mr. Basketball, to consider comfort level when choosing a college.
“Usually when I talk to him it's brief,” Parker said of his conversations with Rose. “He gives me a little advice as far as college, choosing who's going to be there for you…someone who’s going to help you not only for basketball, but help you in school and give you dreams to strive for.”
When asked to identify factors that will influence his decision, Parker said: "Relationship with the coach, relationship with the team and the style of play. Also, how will [the team] be the following year as far as [whether] the coach is going to stay or not."
Parker is considering Michigan State, Stanford, BYU, Duke and Florida.
Jabari Parker will make a recruiting trip to BYU over Thanksgiving weekend.
Parker, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is scheduled to speak at the Salt Lake University LDS Institute of Religion on the evening of Nov. 25, according to his brother, Christian Parker.
Jabari spoke at a similar gathering in Oakland, Calif., last August when he visited Stanford.
"I think it will be a good way for people to feel a little bit of Jabari's diligence in trying to be a good kid," Christian said.
Jabari Parker will not sign his letter of intent during the November early period.
Lola Parker said Tuesday her son is "not signing," but will probably commit in December.
Parker has made official visits to Michigan State, Duke and Florida.
Parker was scheduled to visit Stanford last weekend, but that will now likely happen in December.
Parker is scheduled to visit Brigham Young over Thanksgiving weekend.
"We've kind of left it to Jabari to figure it out, what he wants to do," Lola Parker said. "It's a great place to be in, that you can pick and choose and have choices."
Parker is a consensus top-2 recruit in the 2013 class.
Jabari Parker has reduced his list of college choices to BYU, Duke, Florida, Michigan State and Stanford.
Parker in July had revealed a list of 10 schools he was considering, which included DePaul, Georgetown, Kansas, Kentucky and North Carolina.
Parker is the top recruit of the 2013 class.
"He thought about it and looked at the programs. That's the five he had," Simeon coach Robert Smith said Friday. "It took him a long time to find. Everyone was really good, but he had to make a decision. He really respected everyone recruiting him and wanted to thank them for their time. He knew he couldn't make everyone happy.
"He's just ready to go out and visit the campuses and get a real feel for the players and the campuses. Him, his family and myself will sit down and see what he comes up with. This is Jabari's decision. We're just making sure he's being guided. I tell him to follow his heart."
Jabari Parker will meet with eight schools over the next three weeks.
Florida met with Parker on Tuesday, and DePaul, BYU and Kansas will also meet with the nation’s top ranked senior this week.
The following week, North Carolina, Michigan State and Duke will meet with Parker. The week after that, Stanford is set to make a trip to visit him.
Parker tweeted a list of ten schools he was considering in July. His list featured Georgetown, Florida, BYU, Stanford, North Carolina, Kentucky, Duke, DePaul, Michigan State and Kansas.
