Self Agrees To 10-Year, $52 Million Extension

Bill Self has agreed to an extension that will pay him $52.21 million in total compensation over the next ten years.

“We believe Bill Self is among a very small number of elite basketball coaches in the country, and this ensures that we compensate him accordingly,” KU athletic director Sheahon Zenger said.

Self’s new deal pays him $3.856 million annually. Retention payments from his previous contract carry over, meaning he can earn an additional $22.41 million in bonuses by staying with the Jayhawks through the 2022 season.

Dorian Pickens Visits Syracuse

Dorian Pickens took an unofficial visit to Syracuse on Thursday, according to a source close to the program.

Pickens, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard who is considered a top-60 prospect in the 2014 class, has scholarship offers from Arizona, Stanford, Oregon State and California, among others.

Julius Randle Was Advised Not To Pick Duke, UNC Or Kentucky By Rival Coaches

Some college coaches hoped to lure Julius Randle to their school by speaking negatively about other programs.

Randle is the top player in the class of 2013, along with Jabari Parker.

Some coaches said that Duke and North Carolina didn't properly develop players, while others said Kentucky had too many highly talented players.

"It's crazy," Randle said. "But I have a mind of my own. Every school has pros and cons and the same school that's dissing a certain school isn't talking about their cons. I look at it as the coaches just hating."

Xavier Rathan-Mayes Postpones UConn Visit

Xavier Rathan-Mayes is in the process of re-scheduling an official visit to UConn.

The highly regarded combo guard was slated to make an official visit to UConn this weekend.

Rathan-Mayes was vague as to why he postponed the visit, saying only that he "just had to be at Huntington (Prep) this weekend."

Rathan-Mayes will announce his college decision from his Toronto home on Oct. 13.

Jordan Mickey Pledges To LSU

Jordan Mickey committed to LSU after a home visit earlier this week from Tigers coach Johnny Jones.

"My relationship with Coach Jones is very good and that was important to me," Mickey said. "I've gotten very familiar with LSU and I love the atmosphere of the football games.

"Having a chance to play right away was a big factor for me. I wanted to be able to help a program as soon as I could."

Mickey, a 6-foot-8, 223-pound forward, chose the Tigers over offers from Ohio State, Oklahoma State and SMU.

Rysheed Jordan Sets Visit To Syracuse

Rysheed Jordan, a 6-foot-3 point guard out of Vaux Roberts (Penn.) High School, has scheduled a trip to Syracuse.

Jordan will travel to Syracuse on Oct. 12, he confirmed on Thursday night.

Jordan has offers from Maryland, Georgetown, Kansas and Rutgers.

New UConn coach Kevin Ollie visited the home of Jabari Parker on Thursday night.

Simeon Academy coach Robert Smith confirmed Parker’s interest in the Huskies.

“If Jabari wasn’t seriously interested in UConn, he wouldn’t have them come in for a visit,” Smith said. “They don’t waste people’s time, that’s not how Jabari and his family is.”
