Anthony Davis said his injured left knee is at about “90 percent.”
“My knee is better,” Davis said. “I got a lot of treatment and rehab for it. I’ll be fine – just keep icing it, keep getting treatment.” Davis left Kentucky's South Region final win over Baylor with what the team termed a "contusion."
He averages 14.3 points, 10.1 rebounds and 4.6 blocks a game.
Steve Nash acknowledged that he is unlikely to re-sign with the Suns if the team doesn't make improvements in the offseason.
"I'm not coming back to the Suns if there isn't improvement," Nash said.
Nash expects the Suns to make the type of improvements he is referencing.
Nash also said he would consider an offer from the Heat.
"I would listen," Nash said. "He's phenomenal. I love what they're doing there. A lot of people don't like them because they put all that talent there. But they're professional, they play hard, they play together. Their coaching staff has done a great job so I have a tremendous amount of respect for them.
Harrison Barnes, John Henson and Kendall Marshall will enter the 2012 NBA Draft, leaving North Carolina without their three top underclassmen for the 12-13 season.
"It's a great day for three youngsters who are taking another step toward their ultimate goal of playing professional basketball," coach Roy Williams said in a statement. "On a very small stage, it's a sad day for me because I won't get to coach them again. All Tar Heel fans will miss them greatly, as well."
DeMarcus Cousins had a double-double in his fourth consecutive game in Sacramento's 117-112 loss to the Spurs on Wednesday.
Cousins had 25 points and 11 rebounds while drawing praise from Tim Duncan.
"He's getting better and better," said Duncan. "Every time we play them he's getting better. He's getting more comfortable with his role. He's expanded his game and he always plays hard, so he's getting better."
Cousins also spoke of how he has looked to Duncan as a model.
"He's an incredible player," Cousins said of Duncan. "He's definitely a player I look up to in this league, just his all-around game, his composure, his leadership, all that. I was definitely taking notes tonight while trying to contain him."
Kirk Hinrich would be open to returning to the Bulls this offseason as a free agent.
"I wouldn't be opposed to it," Hinrich said. "It's still a ways away, and a lot can happen. We'll see. I have no preconceived thoughts on what will happen."
Chicago would be limited on what they can offer Hinrich as they are over the salary cap.
"I'm excited to have a choice instead of just going wherever the business sends me," Hinrich said. "But I haven't thought about it much. I've been so caught up in this whirlwind season. I was trying to get healthy and then working to get back to playing at a level I should be playing at. Now I'm thinking about the playoffs."
Kansas assistant Danny Manning is expected to be named Tulsa’s next head coach. The two sides had yet to reach an agreement on the length of the contract
“I’ll comment: ‘not done deal,’’’ Jayhawks head coach Bill Self said. “He’s had talks with them and interviewed. I know that he was very encouraged and excited about the prospect of it. It’s not done. It’s not done, but there are talks going on. Who knows what will happen next?”
Manning has been an assistant coach on Self’s staff since 2007.
Derek Fisher has been working to find a comfort level with his new teammates of the Thunder.
“The thing that really impresses me is he comes in and does his work,” Scott Brooks said. “He's really professional. He's thorough. He's diligent in his work. He's always early. He gets his time in before and after practice. He's not just sitting down and grabbing guys (to come) over. You can't do that. There's always a grace period, a comfort level that guys need and that he needs with guys.”
Brooks added that Fisher has been subtle in expressing his thoughts.
“He's talked to the group at times,” Brooks said. “He's not a big talker, but what he says is very important. Those are words our guys need to hear and they need to continue to hear. He's not like grabbing guys left and right (and saying), 'Come on and listen to this story I'm about to tell you.' He's a class act. We appreciate having him around.”
Arizona and UNLV are out of the race to sign basketball star Shabazz Muhammad
"It's at three right now, yeah," Muhammad said. "UCLA, Kentucky and Duke. Right now, those are probably the last three before I make my decision."
Muhammad, Naismith National Player of the Year, said he liked UNLV and Kansas, but wanted to be honest with coaches who kept ringing his phone.
"I just think it was the calls," Muhammad said. "The schools that I took out, I liked them, but I wasn't really interested in going. I didn't want to lead them on. I want them to do the best they can to recruit other players and not recruit me anymore. I just thought that was the mature thing to do."
Muhammad was awarded MVP honors Wednesday in the McDonald's All-American Game, scoring 21 points to lead the West to a 106-102 victory.
"When you come to every event, you want to be known as the best player at the event," he said. "Knowing everybody's talented, this is the elite 24, top 24 guys in the country, and just coming in knowing everybody's competing, competing is a beautiful thing."
