Cody Zeller, Hornets Agree To Four-Year, $56M Extension

Cody Zeller and the Charlotte Hornets have agreed upon a four-year, $56 million contract extension.

The two sides reached a deal within two hours of the deadline.

Zeller was the fourth overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft.

Zeller averaged 8.7 points and 6.2 rebounds per game last season.

Rockets Decline 17-18 Option On Tyler Ennis

The Houston Rockets have declined their 17-18 team option on the contract of Tyler Ennis.

Houston could have locked up Ennis for next season at a price of $2.7 million. Ennis will be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason.

Ennis is receiving an opportunity to prove himself with Patrick Beverley out with an injury.

Houston nearly waived Ennis before the start of the season.

Hawks Sign Ryan Kelly, Waive Edy Tavares

The Atlanta Hawks have signed Ryan Kelly while waiving Edy Tavares to clear a roster spot.

Tavares was in his second season with the Hawks. He appeared in one game, playing 3:36 against the 76ers on Saturday with two points and one rebound. He appeared in 11 regular-season games with the Hawks last season and averaged 2.3 points and 1.9 rebounds in 6.6 minutes. 

Kelly signed a non-guaranteed contract with the Hawks this summer and was on the training camp roster. He was waived on Oct. 18. He appeared in all six of the team’s exhibition games and totaled 29 points (4.8 average), 16 rebounds and eight assists. Kelly was signed and released by the Celtics after being waived by the Hawks.

The Cleveland Cavaliers’ LeBron James and the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Russell Westbrook today were named NBA Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Tuesday, Oct. 25 through Sunday, Oct. 30.

James helped the Cavaliers to a 3-0 week behind averages of 21.0 points, 10.0 assists (third in the East) and 8.3 rebounds. He opened the season on Oct. 25 with a triple-double, recording 19 points, 14 assists and 11 rebounds in a 117-88 victory over the New York Knicks. On Oct. 28, in a rematch of the 2016 Eastern Conference Finals against the Toronto Raptors, James tallied 21 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in a 94-91 win.

Westbrook led the Thunder to a 3-0 week behind a league-leading 38.7 points and 11.7 assists to go with 12.3 rebounds (tied for fourth in the West). On Oct. 28, he posted 51 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists in a 113-110 overtime victory over the Phoenix Suns – the NBA’s first triple-double with 50 points since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in 1975. He added another triple-double on Oct. 30, finishing with 33 points, 16 assists and 12 rebounds in a 113-96 win over the Los Angeles Lakers. Westbrook is the first player to record two triple-doubles in the first three games of the season since Magic Johnson in the 1982-83 season. He is also the first player in NBA history to tally at least 100 points, 30 rebounds and 30 assists through his team’s first three games.

Celtics Exercise 17-18 Options On Marcus Smart, Terry Rozier

The Boston Celtics have exercised the contract options for Terry Rozier’s third year and Marcus Smart’s fourth year. 

Rozier, a 6’2” guard, has appeared in all three games for the Celtics during the 2016-17 season and has posted averages of 6.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.33 steals in 23.9 minutes per game. He posted a career-high of eight points to go along with four rebounds and four assists against Chicago on October 27, 2016. During his rookie season last year, Rozier appeared in 39 games for the Celtics and totaled 72 points, 63 rebounds and 37 assists in 311 minutes. He increased his production during the 2016 preseason when he averaged 9.6 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 17.2 minutes per game while shooting 54.0 percent from the field and 60.0 percent from three.

Smart, a 6’4” guard, has posted career averages of 8.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.5 steals in 128 career games since the Celtics drafted him 6th overall out of Oklahoma State in the 2014 NBA Draft. During the 2015-16 season, Smart posted career-highs in points (9.1 per game) and rebounds (4.2 per game) while being selected to participate in the 2016 Rising Stars Challenge during All-Star weekend.

Steven Adams and the Oklahoma City Thunder have agreed upon a four-year, $100 million contract extension.

Adams will avoid restricted free agency in the 2017 offseason.

In two games this season, Adams is averaging 12.5 points and 7.5 rebounds.

Adams was the 12th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft out of Pittsburgh with a pick acquired out of the James Harden trade.

Rudy Gobert Agrees To Four-Year, $102M Deal With Jazz

Rudy Gobert and the Utah Jazz have agreed upon a four-year, $102 million contract extension.

The Jazz will avoid restricted free agency on Gobert in July, when he likely would’ve found an offer sheet for a four-year, $110 million maximum contract. 

The deal could save the Jazz between $8 million and $10 million over the life of the deal.

Gobert was the 27th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft out of France.
