Bucks Accused Of Not Testing Larry Sanders For Concussion In 2014

Aug 31, 2016 9:13 PM

Larry Sanders fractured his orbital bone in a February 2014 game against the Rockets. He chose not to take his doctor-prescribed painkillers, worrying that the pills could be addictive.

Sanders believes he may have been concussed but the Milwaukee Bucks never tested him.

"They kind of let me go to sleep on the training table and sent me home and didn't really think anything was wrong," he said. "And then, the next day, I find out I blew out the orbital in my face. That kind of went into the box of why I had to get out of here, just for your health. I didn't really feel safe with them—the league or Milwaukee—after that point."

Sanders became more tentative putting his body on the line after that.

"I felt that, if something did happen again, I wouldn't be properly taken care of," he said. "I wouldn't be properly tested. Maybe it would be ignored and I would be pressured to go back and all these things, when they haven't even addressed the issue yet."

Serge Ibaka 'Never Asked To Be Traded' But 'Thrilled To Be In Orlando'

Aug 31, 2016 11:24 AM

Serge Ibaka was traded by the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Orlando Magic on draft night while he was sleeping in Paris.

"Then came June 24, Thursday night, and my phone started buzzing with alarming frequency," said Ibaka. "We were at dinner when I started to get text messages, tweets — all types of people reaching out and asking about the rumors. At first, I had no idea what anyone was talking about. Then I recalled it was draft night, and saw talk that the Thunder, the team that drafted me in 2008 and the only NBA team I’ve ever played for, were thinking about trading me.

"Still, I assumed the rumors were just, well, rumors. We live with these kinds of things all the time, and there are always rumblings around draft time, so I was confident that this was nothing of substance. I was so confident, in fact, that I decided to turn my phone off, and after dinner went straight back to the hotel to go to sleep."

After the trade, Ibaka spoke with Rob Hennigan and he says "that conversation made me feel good about my new opportunity and the future."

Ibaka had a somewhat disappointing 15-16 season individually with a lesser role within the Thunder but his continued value as a defensive player and floor stretcher were clear in the playoffs.

"I never asked to be traded, even though there was a lot of media conjecture that I was unhappy with my role," said Ibaka. "I had an exit meeting with Billy Donovan and Sam Presti after the season, and it went well. But this is still a business, everybody has to do what’s best for them, and I let my agent deal with the business side of things. I just focus on basketball. I’m not the kind of guy who’s going to go in and ask for a trade, and I would have been happy staying with the Thunder.

"Playing in the NBA was my dream, and I’d be happy playing anywhere.

"Still, I’m really going to miss Oklahoma City. The fans love basketball there and the Thunder is one of the best organizations in sports. It’s been a tough summer for them for sure. I didn’t know what Kevin was going to do but I know it was a big decision for him, and if it makes him and his family happy then I’m happy for him. I have the utmost respect for both him and Russell Westbrook. Obviously, I’m disappointed that our group was never able to bring the city a championship, but I had some great times there, and so many moments I’ll never forget.

"Right now, though, I feel like a rookie again. I’m thrilled to be in Orlando. I know that might sound crazy to some people, that I’m excited to go from a contender like the Thunder to a rebuilding team, one that hasn’t made the playoffs in four years, but playing now for Frank Vogel, a coach who prides himself on defense, is very exciting for me. We have a core of like-minded, young, athletic players, which is going to be very fun. We are an old-school, smashmouth team, and I can’t wait to don a Magic uniform on opening night.

"The trade has given me a renewed opportunity to show you all of what I can do, and I can’t wait to see what happens in Orlando. We’re going to make some noise. It’s been a crazy summer, and I’m very ready for the fall to begin."

Larry Sanders Received Serious Interest From Warriors, Cavs

Aug 31, 2016 11:15 AM

Larry Sanders hasn't played in the NBA for 20 months but he's considering a return.

Sanders will not return to the NBA until he feels mentally healthy enough to do so. He may not return at all.

"If the time comes and the stars align, then yeah," he said. "If I feel like I'm ready to play this summer, I'll probably be on a team next year."

Multiple sources confirmed that both the Warriors and Cavaliers expressed serious interest in signing Sanders.

"He's not DeAndre Jordan, but he's not too far off," a league source told VICE Sports. "As a pure defensive specialist center, top five. Top eight. And the thing is, the list isn't that long. It's not a top 30. There's not a top 12. They're unicorns in that way."

Sanders refers to himself as retired from the NBA but he still talks about playing in the present tense.

"You want to see me create? Watch me play defense," he said. "Because I'm thrilled by it. I love playing defense, I love watching how guys move and who's on the cut. I love anticipating blocks. I love contesting shots, altering shots. I love it. I love guarding somebody. I hate if someone scores on me—I hate that! I'm driven by it, man. It fuels me."

According to a league source who had conversations with multiple former teammates of Sanders, "he was his own guy and if you didn't fit in with him, he didn't want to know you."

Chris Bosh's Camp Frustrated By Silence From Heat On Clearance

Aug 31, 2016 11:07 AM

Chris Bosh's camp remains frustrated with how the Miami Heat have handled his return from blood clots. Bosh and his wife, Adrienne Bosh, have gone on a social media blitz this week in informing the public he wants to play.

The Heat haven't said whether or not Bosh will be cleared as they can apply to remove his future salaries from their cap if he doesn't play in a regular season game before Feb. 9th. If Bosh fights Miami's application, it is unlikely to be granted.

The Heat owe Bosh $25.3 million in 17-18 and $26.8 million in 18-19.

Bosh disputes the notion that he cannot play. Bosh previously found one doctor who told him about taking a new blood thinner that would be out of his system in eight to 10 hours – an idea the Heat rejected in April but an approach that has again been discussed this summer.
