Barnes Expects To Play Against Duke Despite Troublesome Ankle

Feb 7, 2012 3:47 PM

Harrison Barnes practiced between 20 and 25 minutes on Monday and reported no setbacks on his left ankle as the Tar Heels prepare to face Duke on Wednesday.

"My ankle's great, and I'll be ready to go against Duke," Barnes said during a guest appearance on coach Roy Williams' radio show.

Barnes sprained his left ankle during a win at Wake Forest last week, then re-sprained it in a close win against Maryland on Saturday. Barnes finished with 18 points and made two important shots during the second half of the come-from-behind victory over the Terps.

"I think he showed some big-time toughness," coach Roy Williams said.

Barnes Practices, Listed As Questionable For Tar Heels

Feb 3, 2012 4:31 PM

Harrison Barnes was active in practice on Friday for the Tar Heels, who have listed him as questionable for Saturday’s road game against Maryland.

Barnes, who sprained his ankle in Tuesday’s win at Wake Forest, was “doing a heck of a lot better,” according to coach Roy Williams.

“I should know everything today,” Williams said. “I shouldn’t say everything, because if it swells up again after practice … we won’t know that until we get up to Maryland.”

Barnes leads the Tar Heels in scoring at 17.3 points per game.

Harrison Barnes Sprained Ankle While Running Down Court

Feb 2, 2012 3:22 PM

Harrison Barnes sprained his left ankle in the first half of No. 5 North Carolina’s 68-53 win over Wake Forest on Tuesday night.

Barnes limped to the bench with 7:49 left in the first half after he rolled his ankle while running down the court during a fast break.

After getting his ankle taped in the locker room, he played the final 1:23 of the first half and 15 minutes in the second half, finishing with 13 points and seven rebounds.

“I think it was just a freak accident,” Barnes said in the locker room afterwards. “I can’t really feel it. It’s a little numb. … Rest and ice, hopefully that will make it feel better.”

Patric Young Comfortable Coming Off Bench

Feb 1, 2012 6:32 PM

Florida coach Billy Donovan isn't worried about Patric Young's ego if the sophomore stays on the bench. The Gators' center hasn't started in the past four games, but Donovan knows Young is comfortable in whatever is best for the team.

Young has been dealing with ankle tendinitis for the past three weeks, causing him to miss four starts and several practices in between.

"It's helped our team. I think Patric's come off the bench and he's added a different element and different boost to our team," said Donovan. "I think it takes a pretty humble kid, as good as he is as a player, to do that."
