Nowitzki Misses Practice, Should Play

Nov 30, 2006 8:20 PM

Even after Dirk Nowitzki missed practice Thursday with a bruised right retina, the Mavericks listed him as probable for Friday night's game against Sacramento.

Nowitzki left late in the first quarter of Wednesday night's game against Toronto because of blurred vision. He didn't return, but said after the game, a 117-98 victory, that the problem stemmed from being poked in the eye during the previous game Monday night against Minnesota.

Team specialist Dr. Maurice Syrquin examined Nowitzki on Wednesday night and cleared him for all basketball activity.

Bobcats Felton And Wallace Questionable

Nov 30, 2006 5:20 PM

The Charlotte Bobcats could be without starters Raymond Felton and Gerald Wallace for Friday night's road game against the Washington Wizards.

Wallace and Felton sat out most of practice Thursday at the Wizards' practice court inside the Verizon Center. Wallace suffered a left hip-pointer in Wednesday's loss to the Atlanta Hawks. Felton felt back spasms Thursday while going up for a shot early in practice.

The Bobcats will re-assess Wallace's and Felton's injuries at shootaround Friday morning.

Shavlik Randolph Breaks Ankle At Practice

Nov 30, 2006 3:21 PM

Philadelphia 76ers forward Shavlik Randolph broke his left ankle at practice Thursday and was taken by ambulance to a hospital.

Randolph lost his balance near the end of practice and suffered the gruesome injury. Practice came to an immediate stop and Randolph, in his second-year out of Duke, was taken out on a stretcher and whisked to Roxborough Memorial Hospital.

"It's like a Joe Theismann thing," Sixers swingman Andre Igudola said, referring to the famous televised hit on the Redskins quarterback in 1985.

"I saw players just running around and screaming," coach Maurice Cheeks said. "It was something bad. I've never seen anything like it in my life."

Doc And Wally Get Into Shouting Match

Nov 30, 2006 1:05 PM

Doc Rivers and Wally Szczerbiak got into a shouting match while they were walking to the locker room at halftime on Wednesday night.  Defensive assignments were the point of contention.

"It was rectified," said Rivers. "It was no big deal, though. It was good. It was great because we could show them at halftime and they saw the mistakes."

Said Szczerbiak: "I love Doc. Strong-willed individuals are going to get into it once in a while. I know when to bury the hatchet and I think he does to. We're just going to move on. We figured it out in here at halftime. We ironed out the problem. It was just competitive guys going at it. It got me going a little bit."

Dalembert Says He's 'Confused'

Nov 30, 2006 12:58 PM

Maurice Cheeks wants Samuel Dalembert to be a more physical, dominant interior defender.

Dalembert's response?

?I'm lost. I'm lost,? said Dalembert after yesterday's 76ers practice. ?I'm confused what he means by physical play. Actually, I'm getting in foul trouble, so I want to know exactly what physical play means.

?If you mean offensively, my job is not really to be an offensive player. That's what I've been told. In terms of defense, yes, there's a lot of stuff. ... Usually, I don't get my fouls on my man ? I get my fouls on helping out or when somebody's not rotating. That's tough.?

Harrington: Golden State Was The Best Situation

Nov 30, 2006 12:57 PM

Baron Davis was probably the person who was the most upset about the Warriors losing out to the Pacers on Al Harrington.

"BD was with me in Vegas the whole time, so he was there every step of the way," Harrington said. "Obviously, he was very upset about it, but he understood. One thing I can say about (Warriors executive vice president Chris) Mullin is that he tried.

"If they wouldn't have gotten the sign-and-trade done, I probably would have wound up here, because this was the best situation at that time," Harrington said.
