Justise Winslow Glad He's On Team Not In 'Rebuilding Stage'

Aug 31, 2015 11:16 AM

Justise Winslow is excited to join the Miami Heat, a team that can quickly return to the playoffs after dropping to the lottery in 14-15.

“I’m looking forward to going out there and winning championships,” he said. “That’s what this organization is about. We’ve got the tools, the talent to do it. Getting it all together with the core they have, finding ways to complement that and really impact the game. The Heat expect to win every year. That’s the kind of culture that coach [team president Pat] Riley has built and I’m happy to be there.”

Winslow plans to become a rotation player on a deep Heat team.

“I just feel like I can impact the game in so many ways,” he said. “I’ll be there out on the court; I don’t know how many minutes. I don’t know if I’m starting or coming off the bench. Regardless, when I’m out there I’ll affect the game. Regardless of what team I was going to be on, I was going to be aggressive, play my game, and try to win. It definitely helps that the team I’m on is not in a rebuilding stage.”

Blazers' Offseason Was About Finding Players On Same Career Arc As Lillard

Aug 31, 2015 11:01 AM

The Portland Trail Blazers have shifted this offseason to fully build around Damian Lillard following the departure of LaMarcus Aldridge.

“We had a lot of veteran free agents, [but our offseason plan] was all based on LaMarcus’s decision,” Neil Olshey said. “We had brought some guys in prior to July 3 when LaMarcus informed us he wasn’t coming back, that we felt could play either way — they could be really good additions to our current group or they could be guys we could move in another direction. We were preparing for this opportunity. We were kind of trying to play both ends against the middle and then LaMarcus informed us he wasn’t coming back, so we went full bore with guys in the same career arc as Damian Lillard.

“Damian’s our best player right now. He’s a two-time All-Star. We’re going to bring in players that complement Damian, his skill set, how we want to play, and who can grow with him as he continues to improve.”

Eric Moreland Expected To Decide Among Interest From Lakers, Pistons, Kings

Aug 30, 2015 11:32 PM

Free agent Eric Moreland has multiple deals to compete for a roster spot in NBA training camp, with the Detroit Pistons as frontrunners, league sources told RealGM.

The Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings are strong under consideration for Moreland, sources said, and their front offices expect the 6-foot-10 forward to settle upon a destination once the final offers are presented. The Kings waived Moreland on July 29 before his contract guarantee date for the 2015-16 season.

Moreland would hold strong chances in roster competitions with the Pistons, Lakers and Kings. Detroit will have several forwards battling for final regular season spots, and Los Angeles and Sacramento have openings with 12 and 14 guaranteed contracts, respectively.

After recovering from shoulder surgery, Moreland had an impressive Summer League in Las Vegas for the second consecutive year. He averaged 6.4 points, eight rebounds and two blocks in 20 minutes per game for the Kings’ entry.

Moreland played three regular-season games for the Kings in 2014-15.

Moreland went unselected out of Oregon State in the 2014 NBA draft. Through workouts and the summer league, the 23-year-old earned a three-year contract with the Kings.

Aug 30, 2015 2:02 AM

The Buss Family has no interest in selling the Los Angeles Lakers as they continue to run the franchise as a family business.

"There is no point to sell, because it's a family business," he said. "We have Jesse [Buss] who runs the scouting and does an incredible job. Joey [Buss], who is the business side and runs the D-Fenders and does a great job. They're the future of the Lakers.

"We're not going to sell, that's all there is to it."
