Nick Young Undecided On $5.7M Player Option With Lakers

Mar 31, 2017 2:18 PM

Nick Young might opt out of his $5.7 million player option for the 17-18 season after he rebuilt his value with the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Lakers considered using the stretch provision on Young last offseason, which seemed like a good idea at the time but would have been a mistake considering how well he's played.

Young is averaging 13.2 points on 40.4 percent shooting.

“I got a chance to play and show Nick Young again after going through everything I went through,” Young said. “That’s the best part of everything, being able to play. You think you won’t be in the league last year. Then you start 60 games.”

Young and his agent haven't decided what they'll do but he would prefer to stay with the Lakers.

“It’s L.A. I’m from here, family is here,” Young said. “I’ve been here for four years.”

Gordon Hayward: You Can't Blame Players For Staying Or Changing

Mar 24, 2017 12:10 PM

Gordon Hayward was asked if he thinks loyalty to a team is important after Wednesday's game.

Hayward will become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

"You know I think every player has different situations for reasons why they leave or stay,” he said. “I think it's definitely cool when guys play their whole career in one city. I grew up watching the Pacers, and Reggie Miller stayed there his whole career. He was a guy that everybody looked up to, so I think it's definitely cool. But, like I said, every situation is different, every player has different things going on, so you can't blame players one way or the other for staying or changing."

When Hayward was a restricted free agent in 2014, he signed a four-year, $63 million offer sheet with the then-Charlotte Bobcats that the Utah Jazz matched.

The Jazz can offer Hayward a fifth year and also 7.5 percent raises.

Derrick Rose, Knicks Not Ruling Out Deal In Offseason

Mar 24, 2017 11:45 AM

Derrick Rose will prioritize winning over money when he hits free agency for the first time in his career this offseason. Rose was traded by the Chicago Bulls to the New York Knicks last offseason.

"Not even thinking money. I've got more than enough money saved. If I stopped playing basketball now, I'll be all right," Rose told reporters in Utah on Wednesday night. "I want to win. I want to be happy and feel at peace with myself wherever I'm at. But being at the negotiating table, you never know. I'm not going to negotiate with people where money is the No. 1 thing I'm asking for. I want to win."

Rose is averaging 17.8 points, 4.4 assists and 3.8 rebounds in 32 minutes per game for New York.

The Knicks haven't ruled out potentially re-signing Rose. Rose has talked about being uncomfortable in the Knicks' triangle offense several times over the course of the season.

Asked on Wednesday whether he can fit in the triangle, Rose said, "I'd be fine." He added: "I'm just confident in any offense."

Rose will take an open approach to free agency.

"It's a part of free agency to see about the other teams out there, whoever is out there, whoever is interested. At least give them a chance and go from there.

"This will be the first time I'll be a free agent. I don't know how that process goes," he added. "After the season, me, my agent, my brothers, family will have to talk about it. Of course I want to be here, just being in this environment, being in New York, being at the Garden every other night -- it's a blessing. But, again, I have to really talk it over with my agent and my brothers."

Chris Paul Closer To Doc Rivers Than Any Clippers' Teammates

Mar 24, 2017 12:27 PM

Chris Paul is one of the best point guards of all-time but he has been considered a difficult player to play with at various times in his career.

One team source told Bleacher Report that Paul's hard-driving nature and politician's polish mean "nobody's really friends with Chris."

Paul is also much closer to Doc Rivers than any of his teammates, according to another source.

Both Paul and Blake Griffin are free agents this summer.
