Will Barton Prefers 2018 Free Agency Over Extension With Nuggets

Apr 30, 2017 4:13 PM

Will Barton is uninterested in signing an extension with the Denver Nuggets this offseason and will opt for free agency in 2018.

Barton will be entering the final year of his three-year, $11 million contract in the 17-18 season.

Under the new collective bargaining agreement, players who are on three-year contracts are eligible to sign an extension after the second-year anniversary of the pact. With 8 percent increases, Barton was looking at roughly a four-year, $39 million extension.

In Barton's first two full seasons with the Nuggets, he averaged 14.4 points and 13.7 respectively and shot a career-high 37 percent from 3-point range in 2016-17.

Vince Carter Plans To Play Next Season, No Retirement In Sight

Apr 29, 2017 7:56 PM

Vince Carter plans on continuing his career next season. Carter has had remarkable longevity, evolving into one of the game's better veteran wing role players.

Carter will be a free agent this summer.

"I said to myself 'I want to play 15 years'. I don't know where I got that from. And the I got to 15 years and I kept going. I never capped it, but at the same time I've had a lot of players remind me of things I've said," said Carter about how he kept telling fellow players he would retire after two more years.

"I'm still saying 'two more years and I'm done.'

"I sit here today and I think of when I was younger, at that 25 and the season was over, I felt awful.

"I could play three more rounds of basketball right now."

Jimmy Butler Supports Bulls Keeping Rajon Rondo

Apr 29, 2017 12:04 PM

The Chicago Bulls have until June 30th to fully guarantee the $13.4 million contract of Rajon Rondo.

The Bulls have yet to give Rondo any indication about his guarantee.

“Of course,” Jimmy Butler said when asked about if he preferred the Bulls to guarantee Rondo for next season. “He’s been huge for us this year, molding the young guys and getting in the film room. The way he plays the game, getting everyone involved, I love playing with him and D-Wade.”

While Rondo struggled early in the season, the Bulls played better down the stretch of the regular season with him and they also won two road playoff games at Boston before he was injured.

Dwyane Wade Will Take Time To Decide Upon 17-18 Option With Bulls

Apr 29, 2017 12:09 PM

Dwyane Wade plans on meeting face-to-face with Jimmy Butler in the coming weeks to discuss their futures with the Chicago Bulls.

Wade has a player option for the 17-18 season worth $23.8 million. Wade signed a two-year deal with the Bulls last summer.

“That’s far away,” Wade said about his option decision. “I have time.”

Wade will also meet in the coming weeks with the front office to gauge their plans for the offseason.

Chicago could conceivably trade Butler this summer, or look to retool around him and either Wade or Rajon Rondo.

"I have a great luxury where I don't have to ring-chase, but I can. Or I can be a part of passing down my knowledge. Either way," said Wade on Saturday.

Paul Millsap 'Looking To Expand This, See Where Hawks Can Go'

Apr 28, 2017 10:55 PM

Paul Millsap will be a free agent this offseason and his future with the Atlanta Hawks remains very much in doubt.

The Hawks considered trading Millsap this season before eventually deciding to keep him.

"It's been great, said Millsap after the Hawks were eliminated from the playoffs. "I'm looking to expand this and see where the franchise can go. These last four years has been great. I couldn't ask for anything more.

"I'm going to take some time, relax, and see what happens," said Millsap.

Atlanta can offer Millsap an extra guaranteed season on his contract.

Blake Griffin Considered More Likely To Leave Clippers Than Chris Paul

Apr 28, 2017 10:45 AM

The return of Blake Griffin to the Los Angeles Clippers in free agency is less certain than Chris Paul's, according to sources.

Griffin will be a free agent for the first time in his career this summer. Griffin signed a super-max extension in July of 2012 a year before he would have become a restricted free agent.

Griffin's personality could lend him to consider the decision privately instead of taking a series of public meetings.

The Clippers can offer Griffin one additional guaranteed season and 7.5 percent raises.

According to Steve Ballmer, the Clippers don't have any interest in blowing up their roster.

"I love those guys, and I want those guys back," Ballmer said.

Chris Paul Could Take Multiple Meetings But Clippers Expect Him To Re-Sign

Apr 28, 2017 10:35 AM

The Los Angeles Clippers expect Chris Paul to re-sign with them on a five-year deal worth more than $200 million.

Paul, however, could still take a number of meetings in a public process before ultimately re-signing with the Clippers.

Paul is president of the union and recently completed work on a new collective bargaining agreement. Among the new provisions is a change to the over-36 rule that will favor him.

When Paul was a free agent in 2013, he re-signed with the Clippers on a five-year, $107 million contract in which he didn't take any meetings with rival teams.

Clippers Remain Committed To Re-Signing Blake Griffin

Apr 27, 2017 7:28 PM

Blake Griffin will be a free agent for the first time this offseason and the Los Angeles Clippers want to re-sign him. The Clippers will also contend with the free agencies of Chris Paul and J.J. Redick.

Griffin is out for the playoffs with a toe injury.

"Griffin is still a significant part of the Clippers' future. Management remains committed to signing him to a long-term deal this summer, league sources tell me," said Adrian Wojnarowski in a video essay.

"In a lot of ways, Griffin has been most loyal to the Clippers' brand. He has never had wanderlust, never floated ideas about leaving town. Truth be told, he's accommodated Paul in every way. Broadened his own game, grown as a leader and taken a lot of unfair finger pointing and blame once the All-Star point guard became the face of the franchise."

Wojnarowski also said "it's hard to imagine a split with Griffin."

Thunder Intend To Keep Andre Roberson

Apr 26, 2017 7:56 PM

The Oklahoma City and Andre Roberson were unable to agree upon an extension before their deadline at the beginning of the season and he'll be a restricted free agent.

While Roberson is a liability on offense, he has developed into a very good defensive player. Oklahoma City has moved away from the league-wide trend of valuing shooting and instead want cutting and driving.

The Thunder intend to keep Roberson.
