Grizzlies Exercise Third-Year Option On Quincy Pondexter

The Memphis Grizzlies exercised the third-year contract option on Quincy Pondexter, guaranteeing his contract through the 2012-13 season, Chris Wallace announced.

Pondexter (6-6, 225) has averaged 4.4 points and 2.1 rebounds on .469 shooting in 14.9 minutes in 16 games this season after being acquired by Memphis from New Orleans on Dec. 24 for Greivis Vasquez. The 23-year-old scored a career-high tying 14 points on Jan. 8 at LA Lakers, sinking a career-best seven field goals.

Hornets Pick Up 12-13 Options On Henry, Vasquez

The New Orleans Hornets announced that they have picked up the option for the 2012-13 season for Xavier Henry and Greivis Vasquez.   

Henry (6-6, 220), is in his second NBA season after being selected 12th overall by the Grizzlies in the 2010 NBA Draft out of the University of Kansas. 

Vasquez (6-6, 211), is in his second NBA season after being drafted 28th overall by the Grizzlies in the 2010 NBA Draft out of the University of Maryland. In 17 games with the Hornets this season, he is averaging 5.6 points and 3.1 assists in 18.6 minutes of play.

Nets Sign Larry Owens

The New Jersey Nets have signed free agent forward Larry Owens from the D-League’s Tulsa 66ers, Nets General Manager Billy King announced today. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not released.

Owens (6’7”/210, Oral Roberts), appeared in 12 career NBA games during the 2010-11 campaign with San Antonio and Washington. In seven contests with the Spurs and five with the Wizards, the undrafted rookie averaged 3.3 points and 1.3 rebounds in 12 minutes per game. He shot .469 from the field.

Owens has spent the last two-plus seasons with the Tulsa 66ers of the D-League. In 10 games, seven starts in 2011-12, he averaged 13.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.9 steals and 1.6 blocks in 34 minutes.

Clippers Sign Courtney Fortson

The Los Angeles Clippers today signed guard Courtney Fortson of the Los Angeles D-Fenders.

Fortson (5-11, 185, Arkansas) has appeared in 17 games for the D-Fenders this season, averaging 15.9 points, 5.2 assists and 4.4 rebounds. He has scored in double digits 12 times, including an NBA D-League career high 30 points in a 104-97 win over the Mad Ants in Fort Wayne on Dec. 30.

Bulls Sign Mike James

The Chicago Bulls today signed free agent guard Mike James. 

James, (6-2, 190), appeared in three games for the Erie Bayhawks of the NBA D-League, posting averages of 15.3 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 3.3 apg 34.7 mpg, .386 from the field and .727 from the free throw line.

Spurs Sign Malcolm Thomas

The San Antonio Spurs today signed forward Malcolm Thomas of the Los Angeles D-Fenders. With the signing, which came during the 2012 NBA D-League Showcase in Reno, Nev., the number of current NBA players with NBA D-League experience increases to 95.

In six games (two starts) with the D-Fenders this season, Thomas (6-9, 225) averaged 14.3 points and 8.3 rebounds. He scored a season-high 19 points to go with nine rebounds and four blocks in a 117-112 road win over the Erie BayHawks.

Undrafted in 2011, Thomas was in training camp with the Los Angeles Lakers before being waived on Dec.22, 2011 and joining the D-Fenders.

Warriors Sign Nate Robinson

The Golden State Warriors have signed free agent Nate Robinson, the team announced.

Robinson, 27, appeared in 59 regular-season games combined between the Boston Celtics and the Oklahoma City Thunder last season, averaging 6.8 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 17.2 minutes.

He was waived by the Thunder on December 24, 2012.

Clippers Announce Solomon Jones Signing

The Los Angeles Clippers have signed free agent forward Solomon Jones. 

The deal is believed to be non-guaranteed.

A second-round pick (33rd overall) of the Atlanta Hawks in the 2006 NBA Draft, the 6-foot-10 Jones has played for Atlanta and Indiana in his five-year career. In 39 games with the Pacers last season, Jones averaged 3.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and 0.6 blocks in 13.5 minutes.

Grizzlies Sign Hamed Haddadi

The Memphis Grizzlies signed center Hamed Haddadi, Chris Wallace announced.

The first Iranian ever to play in the NBA, Haddadi (7-2, 265) averaged 2.4 points, 2.2 rebounds and 0.42 blocks in 5.4 minutes in 31 games last season with the Grizzlies. The 26-year-old Ahvaz native holds NBA career averages of 2.2 points, 2.2 rebounds and 0.45 blocks in 6.1 minutes in 86 contests over three seasons in Memphis.
