Riley Confident D-Wade Will Stay

Feb 19, 2013 12:50 PM

Heat president Pat Riley is confident that superstar Dwyane Wade will re-sign with the team as a free agent this summer.

"We feel very strongly that Dwyane Wade is going to be back with the Heat," Riley told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "We feel very comfortable that Dwyane feels very comfortable in a city that's embraced him, that he likes.

"We feel very confident that we're going to be able to build this team back. And we put ourselves in position to do that."

Miami could have made a trade prior to Thursday's deadline, but they opted to stick with their current roster and preserve the ability to sign another elite player in addition to Wade this summer.

Mavs Will Pursue Ilgauskas

Feb 19, 2013 12:22 PM

The Mavericks intend to pursue Zydrunas Ilgauskas if he receives a buyout from the Washington Wizards.

Erick Dampier underwent successful surgery Wednesday morning to repair an open dislocation of his right middle finger suffered on Tuesday.

"He'll be out for a while," coach Rick Carlisle said. "I'm just not sure exactly how long."

The Mavericks can only offer Ilgauskas a prorated portion of the veteran's minimum salary of about $1.3 million. Ilgauskas has spent his entire 12-year career with the Cavaliers, but he would have to wait 30 days to return to Cleveland.

Cavs Make Deal For Jamison

Feb 19, 2013 12:22 PM

The Cavaliers have officially acquired Antawn Jamison from the Wizards, according to Michael Lee from the Washington Post.

The Wizards will receive Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Al Thornton, Brian Skinner, the draft rights to Emir Preldzic and a first round pick.

The Clippers are also involved and will receive Drew Gooden, who will be bought out.

Along with Jamison, Cleveland will receive Sebastian Telfair.

?Z has been a cornerstone part of this franchise and his jersey will hang in the rafters here some day, not only because of his play, but because of the tremendous person he is and what he has meant to the franchise and the community,? GM Danny Ferry said in a press release. ?He has represented the Cavaliers, Cleveland and the NBA at a consistently high level for many years. We wish Z and his family the best.?

Cleveland has pursued Jamison since November.

?Antawn is a great pro. We are very excited to have an experienced all-star player of Antawn?s caliber and character join us,? Ferry said. ?He has the ability to add a special, unique dimension to our team with a strong inside presence and the ability to stretch teams defensively, while impacting the entire court. We think he matches the culture we have built, and continue to build, and will fit well with our group on the court and off.?

Cavs Could Potentially Only Give Up Z And Moon For Jamison

Feb 19, 2013 12:22 PM

The Wizards are still waiting on a firm offer for Antawn Jamison from the Cavaliers.

"The ball is in Cleveland's court," one source told ESPN.com. "If Cleveland comes back with a firm offer based on the potential deals they discussed, I think the Wizards will move Jamison."

At least one potential deal discussed with Cleveland on Tuesday (Jamison and Mike James for Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Jamario Moon) would put the Wizards below the tax this season.

The Cavaliers have yet to meet Washington's asking price, which is believed to include J.J. Hickson.

Wade On Playing With LeBron: We Can Dream, Can't We?

Feb 19, 2013 12:52 PM

One of the hottest topics during this past weekend's All-Star festivities in Dallas was the upcoming free agency of LeBron James and Dwyane Wade.

While it's probably doubtful, many are wondering whether the pairing could join forces.

"We can dream, can't we?" said Wade, referring to James joining him in Miami.

"[Wade]'s a great player," said James. "You love to play alongside guys as great, guys that want to win, guys that compete at a high level every night. So we'll see."

Not everyone, whoever, was as open and excited about the idea.

"I don't know if it would work," said Denver's Chauncey Billups.

“You see the connection that we both have,” said Wade. “Especially going to the basket [for] lobs and finding each other. I’ve played with him for a lot of years from the Olympics to the All-Star Game and it’s special every time. LeBron makes the game easier for all his teammates -- you see it in Cleveland, so I get to be his teammate for one day and I’m enjoying it. He’s one of the reasons I’m up here with the MVP award.”

The Cavaliers aren't the only team with interest in acquiring forward Antawn Jamison from the Wizards.

The teams are expected to continue discussing the deal on Friday and throughout All-Star weekend.
