Stephen Curry: It's Hard To See Myself Anywhere Else

Nov 29, 2016 6:04 PM

Stephen Curry said the Bay Area feels like home to him just a few months before he's set to become a free agent for the first time in his career.

“It’s hard to see myself anywhere else,” said Curry.

Curry will come off a four-year, $44 million extension signed in 2012.

While Curry is confident he'll re-sign with the Golden State Warriors, he did also say "curveballs happen all the time."

Kevin Durant will also likely join Curry in free agency.

Knicks Open To Discussing Derrick Rose Extension Later In Season

Nov 29, 2016 2:36 PM

While the New York Knicks have not approached Derrick Rose about an extension, they have not ruled it out for later in the season.

Rose will be a free agent this offseason after making $21.3 million in the final season of his deal.

The Knicks want to make sure Rose's body holds up this season and are prepared to pay more this summer if necessary.

If he signs an extension now, next season’s salary would begin at $23 million. His wage would go to $24.6 million in Year 2 and $26.2 million in Year 3 to give him $75 million in total over three seasons.

Rose's starting max salary if he waits for the offseason could be as high as $29 million.

“I haven’t talked to them about it,’’ Rose told The Post. “It’s been more about winning games. We’ll see. I’m more concerned with trying to win games, but it’s something I’d have to talk about with my family and team.’’

Anthony Davis Defends Pelicans' Supporting Cast

Nov 28, 2016 11:35 PM

Anthony Davis has heard criticism of his supporting cast with the New Orleans Pelicans but disagrees.

The Pelicans, who rank 12th in the West at 6-12, started the season 0-8.

"I hear it. I see it. I'm on social media, so I see it all the time," Davis said. "But I think, for me, it's just about the guys in that locker room. I know they come out here every day in practice and every night in the game and fight and leave everything on the floor. It's nothing that I try to pay attention to as much. But you see it. You have to pay attention to it.

"For me, that's not my M.O. to get into all the media and all that stuff. I just worry about what's going on in that locker room and on the floor with the guys I have in the locker room."

Davis admitted he was worried about the Pelicans' early season struggles.

"We were very worried," Davis said. "We didn't envision ourselves being in that situation. But we dug ourselves a hole. We're slowly climbing out of it, and we just have to keep fighting. Nobody wants to start 0-8. Nobody wants to start off on the wrong foot. But it happens.

"Some teams have whoever on their team where they're able to do whatever they want on the floor. For us, we have to be blue-collar guys who are coming in, work, being scrappy, first to the floor, rebounding the ball, sharing the ball. That's how we have to be. That's how we've been the past couple weeks, and that's how we've been able to get wins."

DeMarcus Cousins Hopes John Wall Will 'One Day Be In A Sacramento Uniform'

Nov 28, 2016 7:34 PM

DeMarcus Cousins spoke to the media before the Sacramento Kings played the Washington Wizards about the possibility of playing with John Wall.

Cousins was asked if he and Wall ever discuss the situations they presently find themselves in where they're playing for teams not presently considered contenders. Cousins and Wall were teammates at Kentucky.

"Do we ever talk about playing with one another? Is that your question? It's come up," said Cousins. "They're going to all come to Sac. Come to Sac."

Cousins won't be a free agent until 2018 but he is currently adamant about wanting to remain with the Kings. Wall won't be a free agent until 2019.

"He wants me here," said Cousins about Wall. "Eric (Bledsoe) wants us in Phoenix."

Cousins was asked if he thinks there will ever be a time when he plays with Wall.

"You never know. Maybe. There might be a time we team up in a rec league after we retire or something. You never know."

Cousins was finally asked if playing with Wall is something he would want.

"Play with John and Eric again... you never know what will happen. It's the NBA, so hopefully one day he'll be in a Sacramento uniform," said Cousins.

Danny Ainge Continues To Seek Major Trade For Celtics

Nov 28, 2016 5:04 PM

Danny Ainge continues to seek a major trade to upgrade the roster of the Boston Celtics.

Boston's current roster composition doesn't blend as well as the front office would like.

The Celtics have the right to swap their 2017 first round pick with the Brooklyn Nets.

The Celtics also own the Nets' 2018 first rounder, as well as 2019 first rounders from the Clippers and Grizzlies.

Mark Cuban Sees No Reason For Mavs To Tank

Nov 28, 2016 12:54 AM

With the Dallas Mavericks starting the 16-17 season slowly, there have been suggestions that the team should begin the rebuilding process with a high draft pick in 2017.

"Haters gonna hate. We think that you always compete," Cuban said on Sunday night. "If you're competing when the league is better like it is this year, if you don't do well, you'll be in a position to get a good pick. Which, remember, even if you have the worst record in the NBA, there's a 75 percent chance you're not going to get the top pick."

Cuban refuses to acknowledge this is a rebuilding season for the Mavericks as they're only a few games out of the eighth seed despite being 10 games under .500.

"There are so many teams that became four years away from four years away because guys just learned how to lose," Cuban said. "They stopped caring about any individual game and just got used to it, and you don't want guys developing those bad habits. We have so many young guys on this team, we want the games to mean something. Not to be, 'OK, who are we going to pull in the fourth quarter so we can lose this game?' That's not how teams develop good habits.

"The only way you overcome that is to have the ultimate superstar carry you through, and it's tough to draft the ultimate superstar. I don't see any Shaqs or LeBrons or Tim Duncans in this draft, so I don't think that's the right way to do it. You just ignore the haters, let them bitch, and go about your business."

Cuban didn't rule out making a trade for the future but isn't at that point yet.

"We'll play it by ear," Cuban said. "The one thing you don't do is panic. The one thing you don't do is make any rushed judgments. You see what you have -- right? -- and that's exactly what we'll do, and we'll make determinations from there. If we just can't get healthy, that will tell us one thing. If we can and we're just not any good, that will tell us another thing. If we can and we start rolling along and we think we can get a lot better, then that tells what we do there. You just don't know. The crazy thing you don't do is panic."

Cuban isn't worried about the Mavericks' draft position.

"This is not a race-to-the-bottom year," Cuban said. "So we get every chance to be as good as we can be. The team that has the worst record has a 75 percent chance that they won't get the No. 1 pick. That's not good odds. You'll get a top-three pick ... but there's no good reason to tank unless you think that there's three difference-makers. Not just All-Stars, but difference-makers.

"We'll see what happens across the course of the season to see if anybody emerges like that, but I'm not panicking, not rushing to judgment, not pulling the plug -- pick a euphemism."

Rival Teams Expect Brandon Knight To Eventually Be In Suns' Trade Talks

Nov 25, 2016 1:07 PM

While the Phoenix Suns have publicly said Brandon Knight is not available, rival teams believe Ryan McDonough will eventually be included in trade talks.

Knight has struggled this season coming off the bench behind Eric Bledsoe and Devin Booker.

Knight agreed upon a five-year, $70 million deal with the Suns in 2015 and won't be a free agent until 2020.

Knight is averaging 12.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 24.9 minutes per game so far in 16-17.

Kings Give Omri Casspi's Agent Permission To Seek Trade Partners

Nov 25, 2016 1:00 PM

The Sacramento Kings have given the representatives of Omri Casspi permission to search out potential trade partners. Dan Fegan represents Casspi as well as DeMarcus Cousins.

Casspi hasn't been part of Dave Joerger's rotations plans so far this season.

Casspi enjoyed a career year in 15-16 under George Karl.

Casspi will be a free agent in the 2017 offseason.

Rockets Pull Latest Offer To Donatas Motiejunas

Nov 25, 2016 12:19 PM

The Houston Rockets have pulled their most recent contract offer to Donatas Motiejunas.

Motiejunas, meanwhile, is "surprised and upset" that no deal has been struck nearly five months after free agency began.

Motiejunas remains a restricted free agent. If Motiejunas elects to play in a foreign league this season, he would remain a restricted free agent.

The Rockets were offering a two-year deal starting in the $7 million range but with only the first season fully guaranteed.

Motiejunas' camp is convinced the Rockets have undervalued him and has been trying to generate interest from rival teams that possess cap space.

Kings Could Be 'Starting To Get Sick Of DeMarcus Cousins'

Nov 23, 2016 12:25 PM

DeMarcus Cousins will be a free agent in 2018 and the Sacramento Kings still don't look like a probable playoff team. The Kings have two more trade deadlines and an offseason to consider trading Cousins.

Cousins is averaging 26.9 points, 9.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists with a PER of 27.3 this season.

The relationship between Cousins and the Kings' management has been at times tumultuous.

"I've had a couple of guys from other teams tell me they're starting to hear the Kings are starting to get sick of Cousins," said Lowe. "No one knows who's making the decisions from the ownership level, not who's making the decisions, but there's just so many voices among ownership. They have a million minority owners. Vlade (Divac) and Ken Catanella; there's just a lot of voices and no one knows who quite to listen to."
