The Knicks have had "ongoing discussions" with the representatives for free-agent guard Shannon Brown, according to agent Mark Bartelstein.

"It's been something Donnie [Walsh, Knicks president] and I have talked about throughout the summer," Bartelstein said. "Mike [D'Antoni, Knicks coach] and Donnie and I have had conversations."

In order to sign Josh Howard to a one-year contract earlier this week, the Wizards had to renounce the rights to free agent James Singleton.

Washington remains interested in retaining Singleton.

Oklahoma City Thunder Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti announced today that the team has waived guard Kyle Weaver.

In two seasons with the Thunder, Weaver appeared in 68 games (19 starts) and recorded averages of 4.9 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 19.3 minutes per contest.

The Sacramento Kings have hired Otis Hughley as an assistant coach.

"Otis has a wealth of experience working with young players and is ready to jump to the NBA," said Westphal. "We're very excited to add him to our staff to replace Bryan Gates."

"It's an exciting time," Hughley said. "I'm looking forward to being with an organization that?s proven and that's exhibited class. I?m really looking forward to working with Coach Westphal and his staff."

Hughley had coached at LeFlore High School in Mobile, Ala. for seven years (2004-2010), guiding the Rattlers to six straight regional appearances and a 6A state title in 2007. While at LeFlore, he coached current Kings center Demarcus Cousins.

The Thunder will hire Mike Winger from the Cavaliers to help replace assistant GM Rich Cho.

Cho was recently hired as general manager of the Blazers.

Winger served as legal counsel and salary cap advisor for the Cavaliers.

The Cleveland Cavaliers announced today that Paul Pressey, Chris Jent, Jamahl Mosley and Joe Prunty have been named assistant coaches on Head Coach Byron Scott?s staff. The announcement was made by Cavaliers General Manager Chris Grant and Head Coach Byron Scott.

The Magic have extended the contracts of head coach Stan Van Gundy and general manager Otis Smith for three more seasons.

The team is expected to announce that they have extended Van Gundy and Smith's contract through the 2012-13 season on Wednesday.

Orlando also has promoted chief operating officer Alex Martins to team president and his contract runs through 2012-13.

Portland has added veteran coach Bernie Bickerstaff and former Blazer Buck Williams to their coaching staff as assistants.

The team also added Bob Ociepka to head coach Nate McMillan's staff.

Bickerstaff has been a head coach for the Bobcats, Nuggets, Supersonics and Wizards.

The Phoenix Suns have waived forward Taylor Griffin, the team announced today.

Griffin appeared in just eight games for the Suns as a rookie in 2009-10, averaging 1.3 points in 4.0 minutes.

The New Jersey Nets have named Bobby Marks as assistant general manager, General Manager Billy King announced today.  Marks was promoted from his previous position of vice president of basketball operations.
